Gift of furoshiki wrapping (Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store)

[Tachibana] Nov. 12, 2018 14:00

A friend living abroad came to Japan, so I purchased sweets at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi as a souvenir and wrapped them in a furoshiki wrap.

mfu.jpg
I am Japanese, but I have lived in the United States for many years, so I was very pleased with the Japanese-style gift.
How about those who are looking for a slightly different gift?
In addition, the service fee for wrapping cloth is 270 yen.

Juya coffee

[Tachibana] May 16, 2018 09:00

Kobayashi Coffee, a coffee shop sold by Imperial Household Agency, was located in the antique street of Kyobashi, but when I went to buy coffee beans for Mother's Day gift, the shop was closed.

The new office was moving to Kodemmacho on March 25.

And the company name is "Shokujuya Sakurayama". This is because it merged with "CAFE OHZAN", which sells rusks in Mitsukoshi (Ginza and Nihonbashi), etc., last December.

Kodemmacho doesn't have a coffee shop at the office alone, but coffee beans can be purchased at the office.

It's on the third floor of the building. The above sign is placed, but it is too conspicuous.

No. Instead, when I went near the building, there was a good scent of coffee.

So I was found right away

You can also purchase it from the company's website.

The "Royal Blend" of Juya Coffee, which has been selling coffee for 81 years since its establishment, seems to be similar to the coffee delivered to the Imperial Household Agency. Please try it by all means.

“Takashimaya Nihonbashi Store” Important Cultural Property Tour

[Tachibana] July 18, 2017 18:00

Participated in the "Takashimaya Nihonbashi Store Important Cultural Properties Tour" and guided us to the highlights. It was Mr. Kotani of the concierge who guided me.

The store (Sadataro Takahashi) built in 1933 was expanded from 1933 to 1940 (Togo Murano) while inheriting the original design, and it has a high degree of perfection as an integral architectural work and represents department store architecture. It is a building designated as a national important cultural property in 2009.

t20.jpg

Last year (2016), Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi was also designated as a national important cultural property, but the reason for this designation is that it is "high value as a symbol of the development of department store architecture in Japan", so it is slightly different from that the Takashimaya Nihonbashi store is purely evaluated for buildings.

So, what are the features of the Takashimaya Nihonbashi store?

Sadataro Takahashi's plan won the first prize in a design competition based on the concept of "modern architecture based on Oriental hobbies".

t8.jpg

As you all know, the 1st and 2nd floors (red tent) are granite and the 3rd and 7th floors are Western-style buildings with tiles. Tiles tend to be thought to be vulnerable to earthquakes, etc., but the pain of tiles in the Great East Japan Earthquake was less than 2%, reminiscent of the polite construction at that time.

And "Oriental hobbies" can be found everywhere.

coffered ceiling. Also, the sculpture of plaster was left untouched at that time.

It imitates a nail hide found in Japanese houses.

The chandelier is not the original one because it provided metal during World War II, but it has a Japanese-style lighting.

t2.jpg

The stairs of the first building are made of marble and ammonites can be clearly seen (the middle of the 2nd and 3rd floors can be seen most clearly) It seems that many children can come to see during summer vacation.

t15.jpg

The area around the elevator is also marble, but unlike the stairs, wood-grained marble is used. The elevator itself continues to use the manual things made by Atiss that have been used since the beginning.

t16.jpg

In addition, there is a remnants of a drinking fountain on the left side of the front entrance. The design below is

It's a lotus valve.

t5.jpg

The iron door at the front entrance is decorated with a Japanese-Western design.

t7.jpg

The exterior was said to be Western-style, but Japanese-style is also incorporated in it. There is a balcony on the front entrance, where giboshi is designed.

t9.jpg

At present, the rooftop could not be seen during renovation, but the tower was made with an elephant motif based on the child elephant "Takako" who had been on the roof for four years from 1950.

At that time, the rooftop of the department store was a small amusement park, but there was a child elephant on the roof of the Takashimaya Nihonbashi store. How did you raise this child elephant on the roof, but it seems that he caught it from outside with a crane. The elephant must have been very scared. At that time, it was 500kg.

However, he ate 36 kg of food every day, and four years later it became 1,500 kg, so he moved to Ueno Zoo. How did you drop the elephant, but at this time he walked down the stairs.

Also, the first parking lot on the rooftop at the department store was the Takashimaya Nihonbashi store, but the rooftop parking lot has disappeared due to the renovation.

At the Takashimaya Nihonbashi store, an important cultural property tour is held every second Friday at 11:00 and 15:00. Reservation is required for 10 people each time.

Nihonbashi Kintoyorin

[Tachibana] April 6, 2017 09:00

I think many people know the "Karinto" shop where you can line up at Tokyo Station Gransta. The name of the shop is "Nihonbashi Kintoyorin". The main store of this shop opened in Nihonbashikodenmacho last November.

Actually, at the same time as the opening of this store, Gransta, there was no head office. Gransta was the first store. However, the seller's address on the back is Kodemmacho, and a customer who saw it sometimes came to Kodemmacho to buy it and searched for a shop.

The secret is that this shop has been a confectionery wholesaler for 120 years, and until the middle of Showa, the shop was opened in Kodemmacho. Since then, due to traffic conditions and other problems, the wholesale business headquarters has moved to Adachi-ku and is still operating.

It was a wholesaler, but we have been working on joint development of sweets with the manufacturer since then. One of them, "Karinto," was noticed by Gransta staff and opened a store, which was the catalyst for entering the retail sales of sweets.

This time, we opened the "Nihonbashi Kintoyorin" main store in Kodemmacho, the place where the wholesaler was operated until the middle of Showa.

mise.jpg

My image of "Karinto" is the sweet seasoning of brown sugar, but I was surprised when I tried "Kinpira Gobo Karinto". Karinto, which has a spicy flavor of burdock and a spicy taste of seven flavors. However, it is an exquisite and new taste where you can feel the sweetness of karinto.

The burdock is mixed with the dough, and the shichimi is mixed with the sweetness to be coated.

There are also various other flavors of "Karinto", but each fabric is manufactured by trial and error on the optimal manufacturing method such as the time and thickness of the dough.

There are about 9 types of "Kinto" by Nihonbashi Kintoyorin, such as "Kinpira burdock", "Black Sugar", "Murasakiimo", and "Vegetables". In addition, there are seasonal products-"Sakura" now and limited products at each store-"Ume Wasabi" and "Mitarashi" at Soramachi store.

<Sakura>

The flour of the dough is domestic, and the fried oil is also made with domestic rapeseed oil in order to make it healthy with a light taste.

In addition, Karinto is familiar to elderly people, but there are places where young people are a little unfamiliar, so when selling "Caramel Armon" and "Caramel Banana" Karinto for young people, it has been well received by young people I am. "Caramel" Karinto is in a slightly fashionable bag different from other "Karinto". There are also ideas to attract young people around here.

The Grandsta store is a specialty store of "Karinto", but the main store also has sweets such as rice crackers, castella, and okaki.

<Two-stage preparation taste okaki>

Seasonal <Sakura Kasutera>

In addition, there is a set of "Karinto" suitable for gifts, as well as a stylishly wrapped "Karinto" that can be used for Valentine and White Day gifts.

Everyone, please enjoy the completely new taste of "Karinto".
