◆ NHK Anime "Lion in March" Visit to Chuo-ku

[Sumida Fireworks] 09:00 on October 5, 2016

Last Sunday afternoon in late September, I saw a sunny day after a long absence, so I decided to take a walk.

Because of this, I walked around the Shinkawa area and Tsukuda area of Chuo-ku, Tokyo, which seems to be the stage of NHK's comprehensive late-night animation "Lion in March" starting on October 8.

The story of this "Lion in March" appears in a manga book, and I haven't read it yet, but it is rumored that the scenery around the Sumida River in Chuo-ku, especially around Tsukuda Island, is beautifully depicted. I was listening. I heard that it will be animated, and I'm looking forward to how it will be drawn.

This time, I would like to introduce the place where I walked as it is.

First, start from Takahashi, beside Exit B4 of Hatchobori Station.

This bridge is a bridge that spans the river called Kamejima River, but the photo below shows the downstream landscape seen from Takahashi. You can see "Minami Takahashi" hanging over. Beyond that, there is the Sumida River over the sluice gate, and behind you can see Tsukuda's high-rise apartments.

I'll walk to the area around Tsukuda.

What? Was there a river terrace in such a place?

s_hanabi39-4.jpgIt was a recently built river terrace called "Kamejima River Green Road". "Kamejima River" and "Nihonbashi River", which were once the aortas when water transportation was thriving, had almost no such terrace until now, so I'm glad.

There is also a lit up of the bridge, so the night view may be beautiful.

After crossing Minami Takahashi, we went to the Sumida River. It's a very pleasant place with a wide waterside.

The area near the mouth of the Kamejima River is the former port of Edo. A monument with the motif of "Ikari" is displayed. On the other side, you can see Tsukuda-ohashi Bridge downstream of the Sumida River.

If you look at Tsukuda, you can see a group of high-rise apartments. You can see something strange in front of you.

This is a facility called "Reigan Island water level station". In the early Meiji era, there was no landfill yet at the mouth of the Sumida River, and at that time the average water level of Tokyo Bay was measured around this area, which became the standard for Japan's sea level.

The current facility has been moved downstream about 36m.

I crossed the Sumida River using "Chuo-ohashi Bridge" and came to Tsukuda. From the bottom of the bridge, you can see Eitai Bridge and Sky Tree upstream.

Walking down the terrace of the Sumida River toward Tsukuda-ohashi Bridge downstream, there are places where you can see the Sky Tree like this.

Many ships come and go on the Sumida River. This area was once called Ishikawajima.

Behind the statue of this girl is a monument of the Ishikawajima Lighthouse, a Japanese-style lighthouse built around the end of the Edo period.

Cross "Sumiyoshi Kobashi" and enter the area of Tsukuda Island. After passing through the torii gate of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine and entering the precincts, I was greeted by komainu with a child.

Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine is a very interesting place because you can see various things when you look at the precincts every corner like a treasure hunt.

In other words, this nostalgic Tsukuda Island itself is Takara Island.

It is a cityscape with a strong scent of Showa, such as a long-established store of Tsukudani, behind a narrow alley, a chimney of a public bath, a pump of a well that is still used, and a scene where parents and children fish.

I think you will surely find something that will remain in your heart if you walk all over this place where relaxing time flows.

"Lion in March" is not only animated this time, but also a live-action movie will be released next spring.

For the time being, I would like to take a look at the anime that starts on the night of October 8th (Sat).
