Collaboration between Subway & Department Store @Mitsukoshi-mae

[Nanako Tsukishima] August 17, 2016 09:00

The harsh heat continues every day.

Even during shopping in Ginza, I dive underground in search of coolness.

Chuo-ku, where many subways run underground.

Well, do you know how many subway stations are in the ward?

There are a total of 19 stations on the 6 Tokyo Metro Line and 10 stations on the 3 Toei Line.

The oldest of them is Mitsukoshimae Station.

Mitsukoshimae Station
opened on April 29, 1932 (Showa 7) as a extension of the Tokyo Metropolitan Subway, which had opened between Asakusa and Kanda.

In the ranking of passengers by Tokyo Metro Station in 2015, it ranked 23rd (approximately 125,000), ranked third in the ward after Ginza Station (approximately 245,000) and Nihombashi Station (approximately 175,000). I am.

In fact, Mitsukoshi fully provided financial support to the Tokyo Metropolitan Subway, which had been in trouble with funding while planning to extend from Kanda to Shimbashi, and opened this station with cooperation.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Subway will continue to expand the track with the financial cooperation of Nihonbashi, Kyobashi, Ginza and department stores on the station, but the department store name is currently located only at Mitsukoshimae Station on the Tokyo subway, and in that sense it can be said that this is the ultimate collaboration.

Each subway station in the ward seems to have a story unique to that station.

On a hot day, you can think of it while walking in a cool underground shopping mall along with shopping.

Finally, there is one quiz.

In addition to "no", "tsu", and "ga" in Tokyo subway station names, there is one station with "Kana character" in the station name. Well, where is it?

That's right. It was Kachidoki station on the Oedo Line in the city.
