Yan Liao-kan, a hospitality facility for a new era

[De Niro] May 6, 2015 14:00

The other day, I went to the panel exhibition "The Age of Yan Liao Museum-Meiji Nippon Hospitality Beginning-" which was introduced on this correspondent blog.

(It is being held until May 8 in the South Observation Room (45th floor) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building 1)

According to the Flyer's commentary, there was no research on the Yan Liao Pavilion in the past, and there was no item in the specialized historical encyclopedia. It was built as the first guesthouse in modern times in the early Meiji era, and there are barely scattered materials that were used to serve various guests who came to Japan at the time, and it was demolished only 23 years after construction. It was a phantom facility in the history of Hamarikyu.

In preparation for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Tokyo Metropolitan Archives has just begun a full-scale survey in response to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's plan to restore the Yan Liao Pavilion into the Hamarikyu Onshi Garden as a facility for hospitality of the new era.

This exhibition at the Shinjuku Metropolitan Government Office will be held until the 8th, but from May 21, it will be displayed again at the Tokyo Metropolitan Archives (1-20-1 Tamagawa, Setagaya-ku) in Setagaya with almost the same content (until July 24).

The details of the restoration plan have not yet been clarified, but I am looking forward to seeing it as a new landmark in Chuo-ku as expectations for future research and research results of the Yan Liao Pavilion increase.
