<Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten> President Higuchi's "Old postcard of Nihonbashi" 1-Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten-

[rosemary sea] March 11, 2019 18:00

This is the rosemary sea, which covers "gifts and I enjoy myself."

IMG_20190130_115238 (2)a.jpgAs I mentioned in the "History" last time, Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten Higuchi said, "< Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten> Junichi Higuchi in the corner of "A little good story of a big husband" on the homepage of Toto Norenkai. "Nihonbashi postcard surprise exhibition" is serialized.

It is currently listed up to the 5th time. I heard that it will be a series of 10 to 12 times in total.

President Higuchi personally collects "old postcards of Nihonbashi" and carefully selects them to introduce them.

Please take a look at it.

With the permission of President Higuchi, I would like to introduce "Old postcards of Nihonbashi" on this blog.

This is the first time.

Then...

aSKMBT_C22014021206320_0058.jpg

The first thing you can see is a postcard when the current Nihonbashi was opened on April 3, 1911.

It seems that this series is the most common among the scenery of Nihonbashi.

Ishibashi is the same as the current one, but it is new so the whiteness of the bridge stands out.

The Metropolitan Expressway is not yet on the bridge.

It was before the last Tokyo Olympics that the capital city was built on the river. The view is good.

Both the statue of Kirin and the statue of the lion are of course the same as you can see now.

IMG_20190214_130826_2a.jpg IMG_20190214_130854a.jpg

Both Kirin and lions are made by Yorinaka Tsumaki. It's majesty.

According to the information received from Mr. S, a correspondent, the total construction cost of the bridge was 523,692 yen, of course, the money at that time.

And about 10% of that, more than 50,000 yen, is the cost of this statue.

The four statues of Kirin representing the prosperity of Tokyo City and the four lion statues representing the protection of Tokyo City are fine.

The lion's one forefoot is the mark of the former Tokyo city.

・・Is it the only one who seems to be very imbalance in how to spend money?

bSKMBT_C22014021206320_0063.jpg cSKMBT_C22014021106100_0007.jpg

It looks like the opening ceremony.

dSKMBT_C22414021319460_0013.jpgIt seems that the ceremony started at 1 p.m. And it rained on the day. It's light rain, but the umbrella is in the forest.

There is also a guard umbrella, but at the end of the Meiji era, there are many bat umbrellas.

At the opening ceremony, at the beginning of the crossing, "Kimura-san family" was selected.

The Kimura family said that three generations of couples in Nihonbashi crossed Nihonbashi together.

At that time, families that symbolize prosperity would have been rare.

fSKMBT_C22014021206320_0017.jpg eSKMBT_C22014021106100_0020.jpg

It's an object at the base of the bridge. It is written in the center as "Holiday Opening Bridge", but the sake barrels are piled up.

It seems to be a "Seki barrel" donated by the fish bank in Nihonbashi. It's a smart way.

j-1SKMBT_C22014021206320_0038.jpgj-2SKMBT_C22014021106100_0008.jpg

At night, both bridges and stacking barrels are lit up. It's beautiful.

kSKMBT_C22014021206320_0044.jpg

Nihonbashi-dori (now Chuo-dori) is also in a festival state.

mSKMBT_C22014021206320_0035.jpg lSKMBT_C22014021206320_0034.jpg

Cherry blossoms planted in commemoration of the opening. Since it is April 3, is it just the flowering season? It's beautiful at night.

g-1SKMBT_C22014021106100_0006.jpg g-2SKMBT_C22014021206320_0016.jpg

Now back, Nihonbashi before completion is under construction.

hSKMBT_C22014021206320_0032.jpg

・・・ This is the second exhibition of Nihonbashi postcards collected by President Higuchi.

In front of the store, stone monument-Nihonbashi Funasa-derived from Matsuo Basho

[rosemary sea] March 9, 2019 18:00

This is the rosemary sea, covering "gifts and I enjoy myself" to the bliriant.

IMG_20190123_111904 (2)a.jpg

The other day, I introduced Mr. Funasa Nihonbashi's products and history.

This time, I would like to talk about "stone monument derived from Matsuo Basho" in front of the store.

Mr. Yu Miyauchi (Yuu Miyauchi, General Manager of Nihonbashi Funasa Co., Ltd.

Then...

IMG_20190123_112455a.jpg

"Hakuya Matsuo Momo Aojuku Spring (Hokkamatsu Otosei Yado no Haru)"

At the beginning of the year, if you compare it to Kasen (so-called consecutive phrase), you say (first phrase).

Spring has come to my Soan now. This New Year can be called the phrase of my life in haikai.

It is said that he wrote the spirit of Yingchun with high praise.

At the same time, it is said to be a phrase of self-establishment. A phrase that reveals the determination of young man Basho to start his life.

IMG_20190123_112507_1 (2)a.jpg

According to the explanation board ...

Matsuo Basho came to Edo in 1672 (Kanbun 12) at the age of 29 from his hometown of Iga Ueno.

And since then, in 1680 (Yonho 8 years), he seems to have lived here around Nihonbashi Funasa for eight years until the age of 37.

This area is now Nihonbashi Muromachi 1-chome, but at that time it was called Odawara-cho.

Here is a mansion of village headman called Taro Ozawa, and Basho lived in the rented house.

Taro Ozawa was also a haiku poet, the haiku title "Bokuseki Ozawa".

He is said to be the master of Basho.

IMG_20190123_112521 (2)a.jpg

However, when I came to Nihonbashi, Basho called Matsuo Momoo.

This phrase was written as peach blue during the New Year of 1679.

In 1680, he suddenly stopped the Sosho family business, left Nihonbashi, and retired to Fukagawa. I don't know what happened.

It was still after that to claim Basho and go on a journey of "Nozarashi Journey" or "narrow road to the interior". ・・・

This time, I would like to introduce the history of Benmatsu.

This time, we also took care of Junichi Higuchi, the eighth generation of Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten.

I took a picture in front of the store with the image at the top, half-wearing.

From the opening of a restaurant Higuchiya to Benmatsu, a specialty of lunch box sales.

As you all know, from the opening of Edo to the Great Kanto Earthquake, there was a fish shore in Nihonbashi.

In the 7th year of culture (1810), Yoichi Higuchi, born in Echigo, opened a restaurant called Higuchiya on the Nihonbashi Fish Bank.

This is the beginning of "Benmatsu".

Higuchiya was reputed for his good cooking and seemed to be very prosperous.

But the people on the shores of the fish are so silly that they are too busy to have their own time.

Even if you have a meal, you may have to stand up before you finish eating everything.

So Yoichi recommended that the remaining dishes be wrapped in a sutra tree (thin wooden board: in this case wooden fold) or bamboo skin and taken home.

This attentive became even more popular, and the number of customers wishing to take home has increased.

This is the root of Benmatsu's folded lunch box.

IMG_20190130_110445 (2)a.jpgAnd in the days of Takejiro, the second generation, he began selling lunch boxes wrapped in bamboo skin from the beginning.

In addition, Mr. Matsujiro, the third generation, changed from a restaurant to a specialty restaurant. This is said to be the first specialty store in Japan to sell lunch boxes.

At this time, the name of the shop was reduced by "Matsujiro of the lunch shop" and became "Benmatsu".

Therefore, Mr. Benmatsu is also published in the "Chuo-ku First Story Map" issued by the Chuo-ku Tourism Association as "the shop of the Orizume Cooking Specialty Shop".

IMG_20190130_192729a.jpg

Benmatsu-san's dish arranged by Tsugumichi Saigo

Toshimichi Okubo: Former Order of the Meiji Restoration, the first Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications.

Together with Saigo Takamori and Takayoshi Kido, they are called "the Three Greats of the Restoration."

Toshimichi Okubo was assassinated on May 14, 1878 (1878).

This is "Kioi-zaka's strangeness."

Earlier, he lost and died in Saigo Takamori and Satsuma Rebellion, who were defeated in conflict over the conquest of South Korea.

The ally, Okubo, who had already been separated, was defeated by this strange by the complainants in the aftermath.

Tsugumichi Saigo, who longed for Okubo and stayed in the government without following his brother Takamori Saigo, would have been shocked many times. But it was really cool and thin.

After hearing about this incident, Tsugumichi Saigo prepared and delivered a large box of dishes to the residence in Okubo.

This is Mr. Benmatsu's dish, for 150 people. For those who have gathered in the incident.

Speaking of the dishes and lunch boxes to deliver, Mr. Benmatsu would have been.

IMG_20190130_192959 (2)a.jpg

"Dark Yui" taste passed down from the Meiji era to the present day

Sweet, spicy and dark seasoning. This is the taste of Benmatsu-san that has been handed down.

At first, it may have been a means of aiming for high calories for physical workers working on the fish shore in Nihonbashi.

And because of the nature of a lunch box, it can be considered to have a long life.

However, the lunch box, which used plenty of sugar, which was expensive at the time, seems to have been accepted not by finding it but by the high society layer.

The folding of the trees has been continued to date.

IMG_20190130_115339_3 (2)a.jpg

The upper part of the image is Benmatsu's advertisement. It was from 1896.

The shape has changed a little, but the lunch box from the Meiji era, the taste of Edo before that, and it is still handed down to Benmatsu-san.

IMG_20190130_105719_1 (2)a.jpg IMG_20190130_120026_1 (2)a.jpg

After entering Mr. Benmatsu's shop, there is a wooden signboard and noren on the front.

President Higuchi said he did not hear that the signboard was probably after the war and that he escaped the raid with it. It's the eighth generation of Benmatsu.

IMG_20190130_105617 (2)a.jpg IMG_20190130_105631 (2)a.jpg

 Ainosuke Kataoka, the sixth generation

On the right side of the store, the signature of Kabuki actor Ainosuke Kataoka, and a photo taken in front of the store. Matsushima-ya, right?

Ainosuke and Benmatsu's lunch boxes are very popular.

IMG_20190128_162858 (2)a.jpg

Benmatsu of "deep taste" because he likes a clear taste.

You say it's easy to diminish the taste. But then, the taste of the tradition will be blurred.

It is said that such a change will no longer be Benmatsu's lunch.

We have a desire to continue to protect as long as there are at least one customer who likes this taste that cannot be imitated elsewhere.

History and Origin of Nihonbashi Funasa-Nihonbashi Funasa-

[rosemary sea] March 5, 2019 09:00

The other day, I introduced the items of the shop of Funasa Nihonbashi, a long-established Tsukudani.

Click here for the previous article.

⇒ /archive/2019/02/post-6101.html

This time, I would like to talk about the history and origin of Mr. Funasa Nihonbashi.

Mr. Yu Miyauchi (Yuu Miyauchi, General Manager of Nihonbashi Funasa Co., Ltd.

Then...

IMG_20190123_111501 (2)a.jpg

Funasa Nihonbashi was founded in 1862 (Bunkyu 2), around the end of the Edo period.

Sakichi was originally a samurai. Hokushin Kazuto style, skill of licensing.

My hobby was fishing, and I sold the caught small crucian as a skewer, and sold it as "Funa Kotobuki Umeyaki" with soy sauce.

One day I set up a fishing boat and got into time. It was Tsukuda Island.

So I got hints that a local fisherman was salty and boiled small fish and sold it. It is said that the soy sauce boiled at this time created the prototype of the current Tsukudani.

IMG_20190123_114615 (2)a.jpg

Tsukudani came to attract attention in the battle between Nisshin and Russo.

Tsukudani, which was highly preserved, was regarded as a wartime food, so that soldiers after returning to Japan could buy Tsukudani.

IMG_20190123_111540 (2)a.jpg

The name of the shop is "Sayoshi of Funaya", which is the naming from there, but "Kinfunasa Tsukudani" is registered as a trademark.

It is derived from the memorial of Kanemori Ono (Kanemori), the third generation, who further devised the taste of the secrets inherited, and created Edo's specialty Tsukudani.

Funasa Nihonbashi, who has a reputation for Edo food, is now the fourth generation Ryuhei Miyauchi (Ryuhei), and the fifth generation Yu Miyauchi, are creating items such as Tsukudani.

IMG_20190123_112034 (2)a.jpg

By the way, Mr. Funasa Nihonbashi has been quoted in a rosmari article before.

It is "I will talk about the history of Mr. Shigeru Kami 2" uploaded on March 9, 2017.

At that time, Mr. Kamimo and President Inoue's talk. ・・・

"When actor Masanobu Katsumura went around Nihonbashi on TBS's program "Pantankokan Kan" broadcast in August 2012, my mother also came out with the shop.

Katsumura's father was a craftsman of Tsukudani's Funasa. ・・・』

・・Yes, Mr. Katsumura's father was the manufacturing manager of Funasa Nihonbashi.

It is diagonally opposite across the road from Kamaboko's long-established store, Nihonbashi Jinmo and Funasa.

Both are members of the Toto Goodwill Association.
