[HK] May 10, 2017 18:00

The bell at Kodemmacho Jisshi Park was originally built in Edo Castle, then moved to Honishi 3-chome (now Nihonbashi Muromachi 4-chome) during the Hidetada Tokugawa period, and was installed in Meiji period at its current location.

Tokinokane Hour Bell in Jisshi Park was initially built in Edo Castle and was transferred to 3 chome Honkoku (Currently 4 chome Nihombashi) during General Tokugawa Hidetada's regime, and was relocated to current position in Meiji era.

In the Edo period, the way common people know the time was to listen to the bell of time.

There are nine bells in Edo (1 Honishicho, 2 Ueno Kanei-ji Temple, 3 Shiba cut-through, 4 Ichigaya Yahata, 5 Akasaka Entsuji, 6 Meguro fudoson, 7 Senso-ji Temple, 8 Honjo Yokobori, 9 Yotsuya Tenryu-ji Temple).

You could hear the sound of the bell all over there, and it was lively.

During Edo era, local people were able to know the time by listennng to Tokinokane Hour Bell.

Once in Edo era, there used to be 9 Tokinokane Bells in the city (①Honkoku ②Ueno Kaneiji Temple ③Shiba ④Ichigaya Hachiman ⑤Akasaka Entsuji Temple ⑥Megurofudoson ⑦Sensoji Temple ⑧Honjoyokobori ⑨Yotsuya Tenryuji Temple) and when the leading Bell, which is told to be Honkoku Bell, started to make 3 prediction gong like 3 pips, the other Bells began to gong one after anther like a relay.

People must have heard bells from all over the place.

The abandoned bell was hit three times shortly, and then at a long interval, the bell of time rang.

It is said that the three bells at that time have been handed down as the forecast sound of the time signal "Pi Pi Pi Pi

It seems that Edo culture still blends into life.

After short 3 pips, the long gongs for the number of actual time were heard.

The 3 pips are told to be taken over to current time prediction system sound "Pip, pip, pip, peeep".

Even now, Edo culture seems to be in our everyday life.
