I went to Tsukiji Honganji! As you all know, the current main hall of Tsukiji Honganji Temple was rebuilt in 1934 (Showa 9) after being destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 (Taisho 12). The design was designed by Dr. Tadashi ITOCHU, Professor Emeritus of Tokyo Imperial University. The construction of the precincts was completed this fall, and the monuments on the left side of main hall were relocated to the Shin-ohashi-dori St. side, and an information center with a cafe and book store was newly established on the site.
If you go straight to the main hall, there will be feathers and a lion will welcome us. main hall's appearance is "Ancient Indian style"
It's made of stone.
At the entrance, you can see geometric tiles and marble pillars, and stained glass on the door. If you look only at this, you will forget that this was a "temple".
The inside of main hall is said to be the Momoyama style, but there was a chandelier and a pipe organ, not just the solemn atmosphere of the temple. There is also a altar of X JAPAN's hide in one corner of main hall, and fans from all over the world can still see it. (It seems that Hide's funeral was Tsukiji Honganji.)
In addition, four pillars of main hall were sculptures of four gods.
From the left, it is Seiryu, Suzaku, White Tiger, and Xuanwu.
A lot of animals entertain us near the stairs going down from the second floor of the main hall to the first floor.
From the left, birds, monkeys, statues. This is said to represent the Buddhist narrative "Three Livestock Trees", which states that "it is important to look around the whole thing."
From the left, cows, lions, and horses. In this way, many animal sculptures will delight us.
Then the phoenix hanging the bell (when does this bell ring?) Are you using it? I thought it was actually ringing before Buddhist memorial service started. The sound resonated so much that it could be heard anywhere in the main hall) and there is a rare beast called grotesque. The tongue stretches from the grotesque and becomes the handrail of the stairs. It seems that Dr. Tadashi ITOCHU has also published a book called "Yokai Research". I felt that he was a playful person.
And the last one is a photo of two statues holding beams. Please try "Search for Animals" at Tsukiji Honganji.
