At the Money Museum in Nihonbashi, the special exhibition "Landscape of the Bank of Japan during the Meiji Period: the State of the Head Office Branch" is being held. This exhibition introduces pictures and photographs of the head office and branch buildings of the Bank of Japan during the Meiji period, the surrounding cityscape, and the scenery of the store at that time.
The Bank of Japan was founded in 1882 and started operations using existing brick buildings built by Josaiah Condor, but then the head office of the Bank was built in Meiji 29 (1896) as the first national modern architecture by Kingo Tatsuno, who was a leader in architecture at the time when he learned from Condor.
The Bank of Japan's branches will also start operations using existing buildings, and new stores with modern architecture will gradually be built throughout the Meiji period.
Through this exhibition, why don't you go back in time to the Meiji period 150 years ago?
Period: September 4 (Tuesday)-December 16 (Sunday) 2018
