Junichirou Tanizaki walks through childhood

[Yotaro] July 13, 2010 15:00

It was July. Junichirou Tanizaki, who was born and died in July, wrote that the work I accomplished as a novelist depends largely on the environment of my childhood. So, with the book "Kids" at the age of 70 as a literary writer, I walked around the neighborhood of oyster shell-cho and Kayabacho, where I spent my childhood and boyhood.

Birthplace Tanizaki Katsubunsho

Tanizaki was born on July 24, 1886 (1886) at the house of Hisaemon, a "great grandfather" who built the prosperity of the Tanizaki family in one generation at 2-44, Oyster shell-cho, Nihonbashi-ku. (Speaking of July 24, strangely, the anniversary of the literary writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa born in Chuo-ku, Kappa's anniversary.) Kurazashiki of a black plastered storehouse with a signboard of a slave book of Ichiroku Iwaya (the father of Konami and was said to be the three brushes of the Meiji era) called "Tanizaki Katsubunsho", this year was record heat, It was also the birth of a hot scale. In terms of current address, Nihonbashi Ningyocho 1-7-  10. Many people may know that there is a monument of "birthplace" alongside "Tamahide" that turns west on Ningyocho-dori. [On the photo]

At that time, the corner of Ningyocho-dori was Shimizuya, a picture-growing paper shop, and Junichiro was in love with his eyes shining every day, such as young people, Tsukiko, and Kiyochika. Yaba (Yangyumi store) is lined up on the east side of the birthplace. The Kashiwa of Tamahide (now Tamahide) was ordered all the time with "a soft and delicious chicken that was light in the Tokyo style." Suitengu and Great Kannon were the best playgrounds for children.

The first house in Minami Kayabacho

In 1891, the family moved to Hamacho, but it was not long there, and moved to 45 Minami Kayabacho (currently around 1-4 Nihonbashi Kayabacho) [top right of photo], not far from Hie-jinja Shrine and Yakushido hall. From here, I went to Kogishi Kindergarten on Konjac Island, which crossed Reigishi Bridge for a short period of time, andIMG_0213.JPG entered Sakamoto Elementary School [middle right photo] in September 1892.      "Yakushi  From the south, Tenmangu Shrine, Okina Inari, from the south.  Asama Shrine, Kagura-do,     God Hie  Company, Yakushido hall  There are yama-do, Daishi-do hall, etc.     (These temples and shrines have become much narrower or have no trace.) The candy shops, dumplings, etc., were always crowded with children.     Hie-jinja Shrine said, "Because it was a ryokan, there was a grand festival on June 15 every other year, but it was quiet outside." IMG_0193.JPG  It doesn't seem to be different from the past.    In addition, the hot water bowl of Kamashichi, which still remains at Yakushido, is a work of the Tenpo era, so Junichiro will probably have seen it at that time.

 Sakamoto Elementary School

IMG_0211.JPG Since childhood, Tanizaki said, "I felt particularly familiar with the neighborhood of Ningyocho, so I thought only about elementary school ... Arima School." I go to Arima School from the house of 2-chome. (Toka Elementary School was founded in 1901 and has not yet been established.) However, from the house in Minami Kayabacho, Sakamoto Elementary School was "I see" and "alway closer". From the second semester, the first graders of enrollment fell without the will of Amaenbo, but after that they were blessed with teachers and their talents began to blossom more and more. At Sakamoto Elementary School, he is in the same class as his lifelong friend Gennosuke Sasanuma. He was the trace of Kairakuen, the founder of Chinese cuisine in Tokyo. (Kairakuen is now)

IMG_0212.JPGIt seems to be around 2-10 Nihonbashi Kayabacho. [Photo upper left] ) At Shinba Bridge in front of Sakamoto Koshomon ([middle left] the bridge at that time was closer to the north than it is now), and Satsuma soldiers, a young boy hobby, were abducted to Baba Sanmon. It was around the first grade. [The explanation board of the birthplace of the birthplace says that he changed his address after entering Sakamoto Elementary School, so it may be misunderstood that he entered from the oyster shell town birthplace. ]

The second house in Minami Kayabacho

Due to the poor business of a father with no business talent, the family moved to his father's shop on the back streetIMG_0184.JPG of 1-chome Komeyacho, Oyster shell-cho, and fell further down to the alley of 56 Minami Kayabacho, Akinori Inari (different from the current location). Will be drawn. It was 1894. This is the place where I spend the most years in my childhood, and later lamented that "it has become a train road." However, it seems to be near the current intersection of Kayabacho 1-chome. ([Lower left photo] shows the current Akinori Inari)

At the Kagura-do in Akinori Inari, a tea ceremony Kyogen is held on the evening of the 8th of every month, and the enthusiasm and detailed memories show that it had a deep impact on Tanizaki literature along with Kabuki.

 Armor bridge

Even after coming to Minami Kayabacho, I was taken by my mother and grandmother to cross the armor bridge almost every day, go to the Honke (live plate) and go to get a bath.

The armor bridge was built in 1872 and the armor was no longer handed over, and in 1888 it was replaced with a steel truss bridge. "One of the not so many railway bridges in the city at that time" "Jun off in the middle of the bridge to return and look at the flow of water in the Nihonbashi River" "Shibusawa House on the shore of Kabuto-cho upstream I always looked at the building like a story with a mysterious feeling. " The current bridge was rebuilt in 1957. [Lower photo] The location of Shibusawa's residence, which is also found in Yasuji Inoue's print, is the current residence hall building in Japan. (In addition, Kayaba Bridge was created in 1929.)

Tanizaki lamented the changing Tokyo later, and said that he no longer thought of his hometown, but rather found a hometown that he had forgotten in the old town of Kyoto and Osaka. At the age of 70, he recreated his childhood, which became the source of literature, passionately in his childhood. In addition, more than 50 years have passed since then, and there are few things that remain as they are, but in the 20s and 30s of the Meiji era, Meiji Tokyo, which had preserved the old Edo era, was guided by the excitement of the author. I had a fun dream for a while.

[Although it's a snake foot again, Ryunosuke Akutagawa's tomb is located at Jigenji Temple in Somei. This is also the Bodaiji Temple of the Tanizaki family, and Junichiro, who has a grave in Kyoto Honen-in, is also divided. Do you sometimes enjoy the continuation of the literary controversy during your lifetime?'
