Exploration of alleys in Nihonbashi Muromachi and Honmachi

[often slap] May 31, 2018 12:00

Hello! Today, I would like to introduce some of the alleys that remain in Nihonbashi Muromachi.

Speaking of Nihonbashi Muromachi, I think the image of "Chuo-dori" is strong.
sbt_1805_001.JPG
This is the main street representing Edo and Tokyo since the Edo period.
Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store and Mitsui Main Building (both nationally designated important cultural properties), various long-established stores, etc.
Recently, many local antenna shops are also highlighting.

When you enter the east side from this "Chuo-dori"
There are many old alleys left from Nihonbashi Muromachi 1-chome to Nihonbashi Honmachi 1-chome.

sbt_1805_map.jpg

(In preparing this map, with the approval of the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, we used basic map information issued by the House. (Approval No. 30, No. 225)

The road colored red on the map above becomes the alley.

In many areas of Chuo-ku, reconstruction projects after the Great Kanto Earthquake have developed wide streets and plots, which are the basis of the current city.

If the inside of the block was made up of small houses, a narrow alley (private road) was drawn into the site and it seemed to be an access route to each.

It seems that the urban structure of Edo townspeople's land was in the form of entering an alley from the shops facing the main street and connecting to a back tenement house.

In a sense, the same structure may have been handed down during the modernization of reconstruction after the earthquake.

After that, despite changes in various situations such as war disasters, high economic growth, and recent urban regeneration, they still remain.

sbt_1805_002.JPG
It is one of the alleys of Muromachi. Instead of Chuo-dori, it has a cityscape with a sense of life.

sbt_1805_003.JPG
Where the main street is rebuilt into a building, it feels as if you were exploring in the dark.

sbt_1805_004.JPG
There are many places where plants are placed at the eaves, which delights the eyes.

sbt_1805_005.JPG

It's a little maniac point of view....

One of the characteristics of the alleys around Nihonbashi is that the drain is located in the middle of the road.

On general roads, drains are provided on both sides of the road, taking into account the passage of vehicles.

Here, the middle of the road becomes a hollow, and water gathers.

It is said that Edo had a sewerage system that drains rainwater and domestic wastewater from that time.

In the alley between the tenement houses, the waterway was flowing in the middle of the road.

Perhaps the drainage ditch in the alleys of Nihonbashi can be said to be a remnant of the sewerage system in the Edo period.

sbt_1805_006.JPG
Along many alleys, there are various stores, mainly restaurants.
I'm looking forward to finding a hidden famous store.

sbt_1805_007.JPG

Some of them are always lined up, such as "Kanenosuke Kaneko" in the photo.

In writing this article, I walked through the alleys of Muromachi 1-chome to Honmachi 1-chome.

It is also attractive that each alley has a different atmosphere.

I was able to enjoy Nihonbashi even more deeply.

The purchase-type crowdfunding site "Miraitsubo" is opened-Kokubun Group Headquarters-

[rosemary sea] May 30, 2018 14:00

This is the rosemary sea, covering "gifts and I enjoy myself" in ultra-modern.

Kokubun Group Headquarters Co., Ltd., headquartered in Chuo-ku, and Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc. (hereinafter Nikkei) developed in cooperation with Mirai Shopping, a purchase-type crowdfunding site “Food and Sake Future Kansho (Miraitsubo) was opened on May 22 (Tuesday).

It is said that the project of food and alcoholic beverages will be published.

In other words, we plan projects such as carefully selected foods, alcoholic beverages, and hands-on services from all over the country and around the world, and seek support from Nikkei ID holders such as "Nikkei Electronic Version" and "NIKKEI STYLE" through "Future Shopping".

In the future, a project related to alcoholic beverage sales in "Future Shopping" will be drafted through the "Future Bank of Food and Sake".

This means that new market opportunities have been opened.

What is Crowdfunding?

The origin of the word is the crowd + funding.

A method in which a drafter with ideas or projects such as "I want to create or sell such things or services" or "I want to do something like this" calls through a dedicated Internet site and raises funds.

It was first launched by a private company in the United States in 2009, and it was launched in Japan in 2011.

However, in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake that happened that year, it spread rapidly in the form of financing for reconstruction projects in the affected areas.

The market is expected to expand further in the future.

In fact, even before the Kamakura period in Japan, there seems to have been a foundation for collecting donations from volunteers for the restoration and reconstruction of temples in the form of "Kanjin".

After the repair, the name of the donor is listed on the temple, is this one return?

There are two types of crowdfunding: "donation type", "investment type", "financing type", and "purchase type".

In particular, "purchase-type" has been growing rapidly.

This time, Mr. Kokubu's crowdfunding is "purchase type".

In addition, it is said that the project types are "goal achievement type (all-or-anashi type)" and "execution type (direct challenge type)".

What is the target achievement type?

It will be established when the funding reaches the target amount.

If the target amount is not reached, the project will not be established and the funding will be cancelled.

It's a good way to make it widely known to those who are interested.

The execution achievement type is ...

It is established when it is posted on this site.

In other words, even if the target amount is not reached, transactions made by the deadline are still established.

As a limited quantity product sales channel, I think it is the best means for both sellers and buyers.

“Future Shopping”...

A purchase-type crowdfunding site operated by Nikkei.

This service was launched on November 24, 2016.

We support a variety of projects that utilize test marketing of major companies, innovation of venture companies, excellent technologies scattered in rural areas, and traditional industrial technologies that should be passed on to the next generation.

By the way, the project drafted on May 22 in the “Future of Food and Sake” is ...

① Harmony of Nature and Passion Single Mort Whiskey "TOMATIN" 6 products including 4 limited items.

② Dublin-born Irish whiskey "The Dubriner" & "The Dublin Liberty's" limited items, 5 items including 2 items and 1 new item.

③ Four new products are the fruit liqueur "Amule" packed with girls' "love".

①The project owner of the second project is Mr. Kokubu, and the third is Mr. Phantom Sake Co., Ltd.

③Introducing the fruit liqueur "Amule (Amule)".

amule_1.jpg

In 1751, we launched four types of liqueurs jointly developed with Hakuro Sake Brewery in sake brewery, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, and Genno Sake Co., Ltd. in Niigata City.

Ume, peach, white grape (shardonne), and yuzu. It looks beautiful. It looks great on Instagram.

It is said that "sake that loves sake" that both women and those who are not good at sake can enjoy and drink.

amule_2.jpg

Regarding future drafts ...

He said he would like to come up with highly rare products such as limited items, targeting malt and wine locally brewed sake barrel sales, Western liquor seminars at restaurants in Tokyo, and developing products by Mr. Kokubu's Area Company.

・・・ In the future, attractive products and services will be lined up here. It's great.

Get intoxicated with healthy gourmet food in the city of Kusatsu, Nihonbashi

[Shiba Inu] May 28, 2018 18:00

In Nihonbashiodenmacho, "Kusa City" was held on May 27!

P1020135.jpg

Kushishi City is a festival that became the predecessor of Bettara City, which has continued since the middle of the Edo period. Bettara City is held in October, and is a city standing on the day before "Ebisu-ko", where nearby residents wishing for business prosperity worship Ebisu-sama and invite close people to hold a comfort party. Various things such as Ebisu-ko, year-end necessities, and pickled vegetables are sold, and they are still very busy today. Its predecessor was "Kusashi City". It seems that he was called because he sold unsold galactors and riverbanks.

The city was revived four years ago. It was held in May of fresh green so that it would be paired with Betara City in autumn!

P1020174.jpg

By the way, the modern Kusha city has become one of the highest-level gourmet festivals in Chuo-ku, without being ridiculous. The venue is Ebisu Street, just a short walk from Kodemmacho Station. It's a thin and short street, and the scale is small.

Yeah! But!

The store opening level is amazing. It's not a so-called event gourmet, but a long-established and popular store nearby offers a serious taste at a low price. It's very delicious no matter where you eat it. I don't have anything. There is also an eat-in and take-out. Great!

Please check the official website for details. Nihonbashi Hisashi City

P1020134.jpg
Starting with Nihachikai, La Farina, Restaurant Katsura, Manrai Senkaku, Nihonbashi Benmatsu, and nowadays a lot of attention! At last, an employee cafeteria.

One of the most popular food products was Co-op sales.

Click here for the eat-in corner. It's cool.

The product sales are also substantial.

Good items such as kendama, bags, sketchbooks and stamps are lined up cheaply. There is also a service where you can freely press the stamp on the purchased sketchbook!

P1020156.jpg

P1020159.jpg

There are fewer people than the city, so you can relax. There is also a corner for children.

On this street there is also a shop of HARIO, a popular glass manufacturer.

P1020139.jpg

P1020141.jpg

P1020142.jpg

And there is also a gallery that is irresistible for art lovers.

Currently, we are holding a Bijinga Borderless Publishing Commemorative Exhibition. The popular beauty painters of this world are competing for handbrushes, making it a very sweet space. For more information, please visit the official website. → Miurajiro Gallery

It is less than a 10-minute walk from Ebisu Street, where the city is held, to Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi. In this city, the holding time is from 11:00 to 17:00, which is very healthy! Under the sun in May, leisurely delicious rice, bargain shopping, and tour the gallery. It will be held next year, so if you are interested, please come and play. I recommend an early time!

Signposts for historical walks around the old Nikko Kaido Hondori

[Silver] May 28, 2018 14:00

Daidenma Honmachi Hon-dori is the old Nikko and Oshu Highway. From Meibashi / Nihonbashi, turn right at the YUITO building.

1527159328898.jpg

The monument in this explanation was located in the corner of the parking lot opposite Edoya, but was relocated facing the street.

1527159339493.jpg

You can hear the voice of the bustle of the street, such as a cotton shop.

When you go to the surrounding Takarada Ebisu Inari Shrine, Kodemmacho prison ruins (prison ruins), Sugimori Shrine, etc., we recommend shopping at a long-established store nearby.

Purchase of Japanese paper products at Ozu Washi, http://www.ozuwashi.net/

Shop for brushes and brushes at Edoya, http://www.nihonbashi-edoya.co.jp/

Sen Ibasen, http://www.ibasen.co.jp/sensu.html (Japanese only)

Please drop in when you go there.

As a restaurant, "Nihonbashi Funa Kotobukishi" is also nearby, where you can enjoy delicious sushi. http://www.funazushi.info/

And enjoy a long-established tour of Japanese sweets. Click here for information on Japanese sweets shops in Chuo-ku.

A book that clearly shows the history of "River and Digging" in Chuo-ku

[Dimini ☆ Cricket] May 27, 2018 18:00

I met a book that clearly shows the history of "River and Digging" in Chuo-ku

hori201807.JPG

It is an Edo-Tokyo Historical Walk that follows the "River and Digging" 20 Remains "of PHP Shinsho"

The author is Tetsushi Okamoto, a book published in November last year.

hori201805.JPG

Ginkgo Hachimangu Shrine, Ginkgo Inari Shrine (1-7-7 Kakigaracho, Nihonbashi, formerly surrounded by Doibori and Tokanbori) (page 71)

There is "Edo Tokyo History Walk", but when it comes to "tracing the river and digging", the content is almost in Chuo-ku.

hori201804.JPG

Venus Inari Shrine (4-9 Nihonbashi Koamicho, the former Inaribori and the approach to the approach) (page 73)

Because it was almost in Chuo-ku, it was very interesting and interesting, and I read it out quickly in a row of scales from my eyes.

hori201802.JPG

Kibikicho Nakadori (near the former Sanjuma Horikawa) (page 80)

Ginza, Tsukiji, Nihonbashi, Hatchobori, Ningyocho ... Even after the Meiji era, even after the end of Pacific War, Chuo-ku was "the Oriental Venice" where rivers and digging were surrounded vertically and horizontally.

hori201801.JPG

Shintomi Inari Shrine (2-9-4 Shintomi, near the former Irifune River) (page 96)

In addition to rivers and digging, the history of the town, the origin of the street, the auspiciousness of shrines and temples, etc. are told along with abundant old maps and old photographs.

It is easy to understand the contrast between old photos and current photos taken from the same angle.

hori201806.JPG

Municipal Akatsuki Park (7-19-1 Tsukiji, where there was once a triangular Akashibori) (page 113)

There is also a detailed "town walk guide" from the nearest stations and exits of Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway, which can be used as a walk.

hori201803.JPG

Tepposu-dori (where the gunpowder was once flowing) (page 113)

I think that it may be enough to be a supplementary reader for the next Chuo-ku sightseeing test (only a personal opinion)

I recommend reading it.

[Second Excursion Series] It was in Kyobashi! Japan's first street payphone

[Hanes] May 26, 2018 14:00

Hello. This is a new correspondent, Hanes.
This time, it is an excursion series that allows you to know the history of the ward outside Chuo-ku, following the previous time.
The second stage is Glover Garden in Nagasaki City.
Here are some of the things related to Chuo-ku that I met unexpectedly.

As soon as possible, what is related to the focus this time?...Here!
The answer is shown in the photo, but it is called "autonomous phone".
Unlike modern telephone boxes, it's stylish and Western style.

IMG_8992.JPG

For a moment, I thought, "Isn't it a scene unique to Nagasaki where the influence of the West remains strong?"
If you look closely,
"We restored the first one in Japan under Kyobashi, Tokyo in 1900."
Isn't it written?

IMG_8993.JPG

When I was worried and looked for the photos at that time, there was something!
A quaint automatic telephone box located in Kyobashi, where there is no skyscraper yet.

Automatic.jpg
(Includes Communications Museum)

At that time, telephones translated directly from the name "Automatic Telephone" used in the United States.
It was named "autonomous phone", but it is the same as a public phone.
1 When the city call charge (15 yen) at the time of a call was reduced to 5 yen two years later, the number of users increased and spread!

By the way, it began to spread in 1902. Shiseido Parlour is open in Chuo-ku.
At that time, the hairdressing fee was 5 yen, the same as the call fee for one call, while the parlor ice cream soda was 25 yen per cup.
You can reconfirm that it was a very expensive drink.

Now, let's go back and look back on the history of public telephones here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Until September 1900, there were public telephones that were only available in the telephone branch offices and post offices at Ueno and Shimbashi stations.
It will be installed on the premises.
An outdoor public telephone booth at the beginning of October 1990 will be installed at the base of Kyobashi.
(For details after that, please see NTT West Japan "Transfer of Public Phones.")
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The fact that Japan's first permanent escalator was installed in the new building of Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi.
I learned from studying the Chuo-ku Tourism Test, but
It was here in Chuo-ku that a public telephone entered the street for the first time.

Although it is a restoration, try to enter the automatic telephone box in commemoration.
If you pull this handle that fits into the box, you will find it

IMG_8995.JPG

The interior was as large as the modern one.
As it is not transparent from top to bottom like modern ones, visibility is somewhat limited, but
I was able to enjoy the mood of a caller from a newly introduced automatic phone.

IMG_8996.JPG

I sent you a series of excursions through two articles with Hiroshima City and Nagasaki City.
There must be a lot of charm and related history of Chuo-ku that can be found outside the city.
It's quite fun to look for historical sites related to Chuo-ku on the go.
