"Nihonbashi" is a nationally designated important cultural property, and in 2011 we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the current Ishibashi Bridge. There is a hidden history here. Anyone can see the "bridge name plate" written in kanji or kana, but the "name plate" has left a record of the bridge.
In Nihonbashi, these nameplates are located on the east side of Minamizume and the east side of Kitazume. The installation location is the back side of the bridge pillar, and you can't look at the place facing the river unless you lean over the railing (balustrade). Moreover, since the board surface is dull, it is difficult to read characters.
First, let's look from the east side of Minamizume. This nameplate is from the current bridge renovation period. Although the original text was Chinese-style, the reading points were added as appropriate.
Started on December 15, 1941, March 28, 1944, engineered engineer Shinichi Yonemoto, engineered engineer, engineer Haruyoshi Osaki Sadakazu Fujisaki Shotaro Shimizu Shojiro Sakaguchi Yasuhiko Sugiyama Genjirosukesuke, engineered on the bridge, engineered on the bridge, Yoriyuki Tsumagi, and other assistants are also not possible, Keiki Tokukawa, Chief Engineer of the General Engineer of the Engineer of the Bridge, Jiroya Shimobe, Chief Engineer of the Bridge Division, Masaya Kabashima
The construction period was about two years and four months, and the opening ceremony was held on April 3, 1911 (April 3, 1911). Next, the people involved in the construction are written. It is said that the architect Yorinaka Tsumaki designed the imaginary motif of Kirin and lions, pine and Enoki representing milestone (pictured above). The name of the bridge was written as Yoshinobu Tokugawa, the last 15th shogun of the Edo bakufu. The nameplate clearly states that the engineer at the time completed the bridge and left its name.
The nameplate on the east side of Kitazume (bottom photo) on the opposite side describes the restoration work of the Great Kanto Earthquake.
History of Nihonbashi Restoration Work
Motohashi Ha On September 1, 1923 (1923), due to the large earthquake fire on September 1, 1923, with the lack of damage such as lighting equipment, railings and paving stones, the restoration work was started in February 1928 (1928), and the work was completed in December of the same year. After that, Nihonbashi was severely damaged by the war, including damage, loss and deformation. In addition, due to the progress of damage and corrosion due to aging, restoration, and reinforcement measures have been taken. And it is only through continuous maintenance and cleaning activities.
