Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Honten Statue and Marble Pillars

[Yurikamome] 09:00 on June 16, 2010

Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Honten opened as a kimono dealer Echigoya in the Edo period, but in 1904, it was the first department store in Japan to declare a department store.

The current building incorporating Renaissance architecture was completed in 1935 (1935).

In 1999 (1999), it was selected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as a "Tokyo Metropolitan Government Selected Historical Building".

It is famous at the Lion Pipe Organ and Mitsukoshi Theater, but I was always interested in the "Tenjo Statue" in the central hall.

Here are some pillars containing ammonite fossils.

The statue of Magogoro

This is an image that symbolically expresses the basic philosophy of “Magokoro” for customers.

This is a masterpiece that was completed by the master, Gengen Sato, over about 10 years.

It was erected in 1960 in the central hall on the first floor of the main store to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its founding.

It is a figure of the moment when the heavenly woman wrapped in Zuiun descends on the core of the flower.

As you often know the whole picture, I copied only the center of the statue large.

Ammonite

The interior that uses a lot of marble contains a lot of fossils of various sizes from the dinosaur era.

What is trapped inside is called Ann Mogai and Kikuishi.

It can be seen everywhere, such as pillars and walls in the Mitsukoshi Main Store.
