This year, the event of "Nihonbashi Wash" was also held, hosted by the famous bridge "Nihonbashi Preservation Society". The weather was fine on July 25 (Sun), and as many as 1600 people participated in Nihonbashi Washing with many children. Here's an overview.
At around 11 o'clock, guests and organizers greeted the bridge near the waterfall square.Prior to washing the bridge, participants threw "EM dumplings" from Nihonbashi all at once in hope of purifying the water quality of the Nihonbashi River. "EM dumplings" are also called environmental dumplings, and are cultivated as mud dumplings of microorganisms that work well for humans and nature, and are especially useful for purifying rivers and the sea. (EM is an abbreviation of Effective Microorganisms, meaning useful microorganisms.)
Next, "Famous Waters from All over Japan" was hung on the "Japan Road Mark" buried in the center of the bridge road.
Participants then polish the bridge road, sidewalk, balustrade, and pillars with deck brushes and large turtle scourers all at once. The "Japan Road Mark" buried in the center of the bridge was polished neatly on this day.
On the other hand, on the Nihonbashi River, a maritime fire boat from the Tokyo Fire Department, Kiyosu, was dispatched to discharge water to Nihonbashi.
It was a big event "Nihonbashi Wash," which was held by the public and private sectors, led by those who want to value Nihonbashi and those who love Nihonbashi. (In addition, after this, Nihonbashi will be repaired from July 26 to November 19 of this year (2010).)
