Shinkawa's sake wholesaler known to the world

[Koedo Itabashi] May 31, 2011 14:30

In building Edo Castle, water transportation, which could transport a large amount of goods, was indispensable.

If you go up the Sumida River (Okawa) from Tokyo Bay and enter the Nihonbashi River, you will find the outer moat where Edo Castle stands in front.

This was an important water route to create river banks around, build castles, and organize town arrangements.

But what if it comes to the defense of the castle?

It is the fort of Shinkawa that stands there.

This area is surrounded by squares of Sumida River, Nihonbashi River and Kamejima River.

If you spread this place, the map, will it look like a tight axe blade?

There are traces of solid defense that glared toward the sea, such as the boat guard and the ruins of the mansion of the boatman (the head of the Shogunate Navy) remain around.

However, in Taihei's world where Edo shogunate is stable, the immediate threat is kept until the end of the Tokugawa period.

It is said that "Edo Shinkawa is known to the world with a sake wholesaler."

Around the banks of the Nihonbashi River and the Shinkawa area, which had been excavated almost parallel to the Nihonbashi River, it seems that it was a lively place where cruises from various countries gathered and white-walled sake warehouses continued.

"Descent sake" was transported from the upper (Kansai) to Edo, a large consumption area, while looking at Fuji on the way.

It seems that a major market for alcoholic beverages was formed from the entrance to Edo Minato.

Walk along the river in search of a place where that remnants remain.

There was. A picture on the balustrade of Shin-Kameshima Bridge.

On the left and right, the scenery of "Okawa's boat" and "Unloading the boat".

This is used from the "Edo Famous Zoukai", which depicts the scenery of Edo in detail with text and pictures.

"Shinkawa Sake wholesaler" may be the basis.

I thought, "What kind of taste was sake from the Edo period?", And when I looked a little at Yokocho, there was a stylish shop that seemed to give delicious sake and a good appetizer.

When the sun went down, I wanted to stop by again.
