In the Edo period, this area seems to have been the residence of Matsudaira Echizen Mamoru, the lord of Fukui Domain in Echizen Province.

The mansion was surrounded by moats on three sides.
It is said that this was called 'Echizenbori.'

The revetment of Echizen moat seems to have been masonry.

In the Meiji era, the moat was gradually buried.

After the Great Kanto Earthquake, most of them were completely buried after the war.

The town's name was Shinkawa, and it continues to the present day.
