It started in August. The fall on the 7th is just right away, but the summer heat will be in the future. The rival "eel" for preventing summer batter is soaring this year, so "overcoming the summer of 2012" is still curry.
Curry is now complete Japanese "national food" along with ramen. According to S&B Shokuhin's website, the history of curry in Japan is "Western Cuisine" and "Western Cuisine Dori" published in 1872, just before Civilization and enlightenment. The curry dish originally had a prototype in India was passed on to the home country through the East India Company established by U.K. in the 16th century, and was reborn as a traditional roux type in Western Europe, and then brought to Japan as one of Western dishes. " The curry, which was introduced to Japan in the early Meiji era and developed independently, was completed in the form of potatoes, carrots, and onions at the end of the Meiji era, and was also adopted for military menus. "Curry flour" was first introduced in 1950 (Showa 25) when S & B Shokuhin released "red can curry powder". After that, curry roux was released around 1955, and it became a staple of Japanese home cooking. There are many famous curry shops, and your favorites will vary, but today I will introduce two of them with my own discretion and prejudice.
The Indian tandor dish "Kaibaru" opened in 2006. This recommendation is limited to Saturdays and Sundays, "Kaibaru Special Tally" (3 kinds of curry today, 2 kinds of tandoli without bones, Sica bab, shrimp, Nan, bath taste rice) 1,600 yen
Today's curry is three kinds of long ones, shrimp, ground chicken meat, and okra. Freshly baked Nan is very chewy and really delicious, but it is "difficult" to gradually cool down because it is large. I always think that there is no way to leave it freshly baked until the end.
Bath taste rice is a so-called "long grain type" that removes stickiness, so it is perfect for curry.
Tsubakiya Coffee Shop is located on Hanatsubaki Street in Ginza. “Beef curry set” (with vegetable salad and coffee) 1,300 yen for lunchtime at WEEKDAY
There are also mixed sandwiches (1300 yen and hot sandwiches (1200 yen) for lunch. Please note that a price changes when it is past time of the lunchtime. It's a nice place that both stores are open all year round.
Just as "Kanji" has become a national language, let's survive the hot summer with curry while thinking about the history of curry that has become a national food and the ingenuity of the predecessors who digest and absorb new things.

As you all know, the Tsukishima area has been created since the Meiji era so that it could lead to Tsukuda Island, which existed since the Edo era.
The people of Tsukishima were naturally incorporated into the shrine parishioner of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine in Tsukuda. Every time a new landfill was completed, the shrine parishioner area spread to Kachidoki, Toyomi, and Harumi. And this summer's festival season has come. The feeling of local children in the Tsukishima area is increasing day by day. (Photos are from the previous main festival)
Until Tsukishima was established, it was a festival unique to Tsukuda Island, but it has evolved into a big event throughout this area. In the first place, [Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine] recommended a shrine in his hometown when a fisherman on Tsukuda Island emigrated from Tsukuda, a country of Settsu (currently Nishiyodogawa-ku, Osaka City) on the edge of Ieyasu Tokugawa. . Therefore, in the Edo period, it seems that it was commonly called the Tsukuda Festival.
There is also a story called "Tsukuda Festival" in Edo Rakugo. When the main character man happened to be stopped and was troublesome on Tsukuda Island, the story spread from where the ferryboat, which was supposed to have been riding during that time, sinks and saves his life, but a strange story that mixes humanity and strange stories It is. The late teacher, Shisei, was sometimes performed.
This is a venerable festival that remains in Utagawa (Ando) Hiroshige's ukiyo-e.
The Tsukuda Festival has become a festival around Tsukishima, and is now called the "Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine Festival". The enshrined deity of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine is said to have the power to control the sea, so it may be the perfect god for guardian angel, the birthplace of Japan's waterfront urban development.
There is a building related to Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine throughout the Tsukishima area. First of all, there is "resting place of portable shrines" in [Kachidoki]. At the festival of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine, Miya Mikoshi leaves the head office and travels to this resting place of portable shrines, spends overnight and returns to the head office the next day. In other words, it is "accommodation" when God goes on a journey around the shrine parishioner area.
At the evening palace, caretakers from each town gather from resting place of portable shrines and walk to the shrine to pray for the success of the festival. The ceremony of this occasion is also called the "worship ceremony" or the "donto festival".
[Kachidoki] The portable shrine warehouses in each town are installed together. In general, portable shrine in the town is located in the appropriate places of each town, but it is rare that it is installed together in one place. Communication between neighboring towns becomes active when taking in and out of portable shrine and cleaning.
In addition, [Harumi] also has Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine's "branch office". It was founded in 1971 (Showa 46) with the establishment of Harumi Town Association. It seems that there was an enthusiastic support from the fishery processing industry in this region. After all, it's the god of the sea. By the way, Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine's "branch office" is also located in Peony, Koto-ku. I would like to introduce this origin again on another occasion.
Well, this year is the year of the main festival. The locals look forward to the main festival once every three years. I feel even more excited because it was postponed last year due to the Great East Japan Earthquake. Beginning with the evening palace on August 3 (Fri), the whole area will be dyed in a festival until the 6th (Mon). "Mikariya", which holds a portable shrine in each town council, is also ready. (The photo shows Tsukishima 4 section, in front of Tsukishima Daiichi Elementary School)
By the way, "Mikariya" means a temporary shrine where God temporarily dwells, and of course it is a sanctuary where the portable shrine of each town council that moved to divine spirit is enshrined. In most cases, there is a sacred wine place next to it. It means a place to distribute sacred wine to Ujiko, but it actually serves as the command headquarters of the festival in each town.
This year, Miya portable shrine (octagonal portable shrine) will be renewed for the first time in 175 years and will be unveiled on a sunny day. The Tsukishima area where the festival mood is finally increasing. Please enjoy the bustle of this weekend.
