Autumn Evening Ningyocho Geisha Shindo

[Mumin] 09:00 on September 28, 2012

From Ningyocho-dori St., enter the alley of Great Kannon Terawaki and cross the road ahead, and you will find a small alley called Geisha Shindo or Kogiku Dori.

The origin of this name is that there were several geisha okiya along this road.

In this alley, there are Kikuya, a model for the newcomer's restaurant "Matsuya", and Yoshiume Yoshicho-tei, a green onion pot. Yoshiume Yoshicho-tei is a building that became the residence of Kogiku Hanayagi, an actress who turned from geisha. Luxury designs are elaborated everywhere, such as lattices and ceilings, and the tsubo garden where red and white tea flowers are planted is also windy. It is designated as a registered Tangible Cultural Property.

This alley is a mysterious corner that seems to be Gion or Pontocho in Kyoto.
