Until now, we have captured the charm of [Tsukishima] from various perspectives, but this is the last one.
Finally, after all, I will pay attention to the scenery of the alley, which can be called the charm of this town.
In Tsukishima, nostalgic alleys run in parallel like combs on the main street at right angles. In the past, when forming a residential area, I think it was the ingenuity of the predecessor who could build more houses efficiently.
In 1918 (Daisho 7), the Ministry of Home Affairs at that time surveyed the housing situation of workers in Tokyo, and Tsukishima was selected as the target area. It is commonly called "Tsukishima Survey".
If you look at the map at that time, you can see that houses are densely packed in each alley. In the end, the figure was basically inherited after that and continues to the present day.
Tsukishima miraculously escaped the war. Although the shipyard on Ishikawajima was damaged, the Tsukishima area surrounded by canals was able to escape the war, so the scenery of an old tenement house was left after the war.
Even now, if you walk on Tsukishima, you will be able to meet the scenery of the town as it was in the Showa 30s, so it will be somewhat nostalgic. Such a behavior will stimulate the nostalgic feelings of visitors.
The following points are the characteristics of the alleys of Tsukishima.
(1) The old town split is left as it is. (Housings are being rebuilt, but the location and composition of alleys are often left as they are.)
(2) There is a ditch for draining rainwater in the middle of the alley. (It seems to be a low-water idea of the Edo period.)
(3) Many homes have planted trees at the entrance and have their own small gardening. (Natural Greening Campaign)
(4) In the alleys, there are not only houses but also restaurants in some places, supporting the local food network. (Fuse of food and housing)
In the alleys of Tsukishima, I sometimes meet acquaintances. In such a case, I'm very friendly because I speak very naturally. I still have a family relationship.
However, this town is gradually changing.
Many of the former tenement houses have been transformed into condominiums. The relationship between the three houses next to each other will also change.
It is natural that a new community will be born in the new era, but I just hope that Tsukishima's rich local characteristics will be preserved.
In the town of Tsukishima, posters called "Someone is watching" are posted here and there. Of course, I'm aiming for deterrence for crime prevention, but I actually think "I'm seeing someone." In other words, I think that a safety guard is working in which local residents are worried about each other's safety and be aware that there are suspicious things, and keep safety. Originally, it is a town that retains the power of crime prevention that the local community had taken for granted.
In the coming era, shouldn't we review such local power again? Isn't it a "strong town" that can demonstrate the power of self-help and mutual help in the event of an emergency, not only crime prevention but also helping each other in the event of a disaster?
The town of Tsukishima, which has various charms, has inherited important things while gradually changing with the times. We will end this series for the time being, praying for the charm of this town to continue. Thank you very much for reading.
