Relationship with Mizu-jinja Shrine in Tsukiji Market of Tokiwa Inari Shrine

[Ginzo] March 7, 2013 08:30

One day in February, I came to Nihonbashikobunacho. A person who became acquainted with me suddenly told me the secret story of the local history and hidden famous shops. One of the secrets of history is Tokiwa Inari Shrine, which is enshrined at 1-8, Nihonbashi Honcho.

About Tokiwa Inari Shrine, it was described in detail on this explanation board.

As for the history, the god of the festival was Kurainatama no mikoto (Inari Okami), and when Dokan Ota built Edo Castle in the Muromachi period, he received the spirit of Fushimi Inari Okami in Kyoto, and was called Tokiwa Inari and was recommended as the guardian angel of the castle. Later, Ieyasu Tokugawa's public office expanded the Edo-jokaku area, and the shrine was moved around the present Tokiwa Bridge. After that, he moved to the Nihonbashi Fish Market, where he enshrined the guardian angel Mizukami Ogami (Mizunome no Mikoto) in the shrine and enshrined it. At that time, a grand water god festival was held as a great market trading god, and it was also a specialty event of Oedo along with the Kanda festival and the Santenno Festival. This water god Ogami was transferred to the precincts of Kanda-jinja Shrine in 1901 and renamed Mizu-jinja Shrine, and is enshrined as guardian angel of Tsukiji Market to this day. ・It's an explanation. shine

After all, I thought that I had to have a lot of opportunities to listen to the stories of the local people.
