It is said that the Meijiya Kyobashi Store, a dignified building that can be seen when walking in Kyobashi, will be temporarily closed on September 20. In the future, the adjacent land will be reborn as a huge building as "Kyobashi 2-chome West District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Facility Building". It is said that some of the current appearance will be left. The reopening is scheduled for the fall of 2015, two years later.
Meijiya was founded in 1885 (1885), and the current building of the Kyobashi store was built in 1933 (1933). The building on the right wall is engraved with PROVISIONS and clearly indicates that it is a grocery store. Looking at its history, it seems that it was initially founded as a Ships Chandler that supplies PROVISIONS to Yusen. Even today, we have branches in major ports in Japan and continue to supply food to ships.
Speaking of Meijiya, I think of My Jam and My Juice, which I saw on TV advertising when I was a child. It is a shop where you go to search for imported sake and food to see if something has changed since you became an adult. It is lonely that one of the pleasures of walking around Kyobashi disappears for a while, but I am looking forward to reopening as soon as possible, leaving the current appearance as much as possible.
