All the mansions of Oku-e artist Yotsuya Edo Kano, were located in Chuo-ku today. Tanyu, the grandson of Kano Eitoku, moved to Edo with the opening of Edo and worshiped the mansion at Kaji Bridge. His five-year-old younger brother, Naonobu, got a worship house in Takekawa-cho (Ginza, later relocated to Kibiki-cho), and his 11-year-old younger brother Yasunobu gained a worship house in Kyobashi Nakahashi, laying the foundation for Edo Kano school. The exhibition of the three brothers, "Exploring Three Brothers Exhibition-Hunting Kano, Shoshin, Yasunobu-" (until March 30) is being held at the Itabashi Art Museum (upper photo).
Kano school, who flourished since the Muromachi period, moved to Edo when he was inexperienced, and worked as a painter for the Shogunate. In 1621 (1621), he worshiped a mansion outside the gate of Kajibashi. He died in 1674 at the age of 73.
Shoshin was born in Yamashiro in 1607 (1607). In 1630 (1630), he had an audience with Hidetada Tokugawa in Edo, asked for a picture, and worshiped a mansion in Takekawa-cho. He died in 1650 at the age of 44. Yasunobu was born in Yamashiro in 1613 (1613). In 1623 (1623), he succeeded the Kano sect. He worshiped a mansion in Nakahashi during the Kanei era. He died in 1685 at the age of 73.
Let's visit the ruins of Edo Kano Yashiki in Chuo-ku. "Kano Painting School Ruins" has an explanation board facing Showa-dori in Ginza 5-chome and former Kibiki-cho (bottom photo). This is the site of Kano Yashiki, Kibiki-cho, which has been relocated from Ginza Takekawa-cho. It survived as Edo Kano school until the end of the Tokugawa period, and produced Yoshino Kano and Gaho Hashimoto in the Meiji art gallery.
The site of Kano Nakabashi Yashiki is Kyobashi 1-chome, former Ogamachi, and the explanation board of the Hiroshige Utagawa residence mentions that there was a slight Kano Yashiki. The site of the Kajibashi mansion is located near Yaesu 2-chome, near the Kajibashi intersection, but the place where the Sadakichi Chiba Dojo where Sakamoto Ryoma passed was temporarily located was near Kajibashi Kano Yashiki. It is said that there was Hamacho Kano Yashiki as Edo Kano Yotsuya, but details are unknown. @ Akira Makibuchi
