Yumeji Takehisa, a poet painter representing Taisho Roman, was born in Okayama Prefecture on September 16, 1884 (1884). 130 years this year. A monument of "Yumeji / Minatoya" is built at the front entrance of Mizuho Trust Bank at Yaesu 1-chome.
In 1914, Yumeji opened a hobby shop port shop 130 meters west of this monument in 1914, and sold prints, envelopes, cards, postcards, Tenugui, semi-collars, etc. "The exhibition that the artist himself made a store that commercializes and sells his works has an important significance in the history of commercial art in Japan," says the monument. It certainly seemed to be a revolutionary novel idea at that time. This year, a commemorative year of 100 years since the Minatoya Esogami Store was opened in this area, and a commemorative exhibition entitled "Yumeji Takehisa 130th Birthday-Yumeji and Rotrek Living in Belle Epoque" is traveling around Takashimaya stores. "He has worked on a wide range of designs from magazine covers and advertisements to daily necessities, and has excelled in the world of commercial art and publishing. It seems to be a project that contrasts the two people as artists who symbolize Belle Epoch (exhibition brochure) with the sensitivity to read the tip of the era without belonging to the art gallery and raised prints and posters to an independent genre. Nihonbashi Takashimaya and the monument are close to each other, so please look forward to "Would you like to stop by" and "Would you like to see after you stop by?"
"The 130th Birthday Yumeji Takehisa Exhibition" will be held at Nihonbashi Takashimaya from September 26 to October 6.
