A retrospective exhibition by Hasui Kawase (1883-1957), a printmaker known as "Hiroshige of Showa," is being held at Nihonbashi Takashimaya. It's my favorite printmaker
In the morning of January 3, I went to Takashimaya, facing Chuo-dori, where the climbers of each university stand, to support the final runner on the Hakone Ekiden return route.
As the subtitle of the retrospective exhibition says "Japanese scenery of nostalgia", Tomoe Mizu traveled all over Japan to sketch, and returned to Tokyo to continue living in printmaking. There are more than 600 woodcuts left in life.
In this retrospective exhibition, sketchbooks and original drawings were also exhibited. The comparison between the sketches of the watercolor and the trial sliding and the main sliding was interesting because I could imagine the creator's intention to make it. You can also see a video (about 13 minutes) recording the sketch trip of Tomoe Mizu, and you can also hear the voice of the person himself.
