'Kojunsha Street'

[CAM] 20:00 on November 3, 2015

In this "Marugoto Museum" bus route, we explored "Kojunsha Street" at Sotobori-dori St. and Showa-dori, which crosses at Ginza 6-7 chome.

The name "Kojunsha" was established by Yukichi Fukuzawa in 1880 (Meiji 13), and is the first member social club in Japan for politicians and business owners. The name of Kojunsha was derived from Yukichi Fukuzawa's slogan, "Exchange knowledge and consult with us about world affairs."
The old building was completely destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, and in 1929 (Showa 4), the Kojun Building was rebuilt as the second-generation clubhouse building.
After 70 years, it was decided to rebuild due to aging and earthquake resistance, and dismantled in 2002 and the current Kojun Building opened in October 2004. The 1st to 5th floors of the basement will be the commercial facility "Kojun Building DININGS & STORES", shops such as "Barneys New York Ginza Store", "Bedding Custom Shop IWATA Ginza Store", and restaurants such as "Akasaka Rimiya" and "Ningyocho Imahan Ginza Store" are occupied. The 6th to 8th floors are offices, and the 9th and 10th floors are general incorporated foundations.
According to the company's website, "Barneys New York was founded in 1923 by Bernie Presman on 17th Street, Manhattan, and now has 30 stores (including CO-OP and outlets) in the United States, and in Japan it has a total of 11 stores (including 6 outlets), including the Fukuoka store, the fifth store in Japan, which opened in September 2011," says the Ginza store in Japan.

"Bedding tailor-made store IWATA Ginza Store" is the first direct-operated store in Tokyo of Iwata, a long-established bedding store in Kyoto since 1830, which has been making bedding since 1830.

The Monoshiri Encyclopedia introduces this third-generation building as "a stylish plan to use a part of the main entrance facade that makes you feel the architectural beauty of that time in the new building" (page 63).
