At Akatsuki Park in Chuo Ward, located in Tsukiji 7-chome, Metasequoia is currently in autumn leaves.
Metasequoia is the coniferous tree of the genus Metasequoia of the cypress family (or cedar family) and the Japanese name is Akebono cedar (Akebono cedar).
After turning reddish brown in autumn, the leaves fall.
It seems that the tree height will reach 30m () when it grows.
Metasequoia is called a "living fossil" because it was found in 1939 as a plant body (one species of fossils) in Japan, but it was confirmed in 1945 in Sichuan, China.
Today, cutting and seeds from China are grown in parks and schoolyards throughout Japan.
