Tsukiji Honganji
(From the official website of the temple)
Tsukiji Honganji Temple is a temple of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji school, and Honganji Temple (Nishi Honganji Temple) in Kyoto is the main temple.
At the time of its foundation, it was erected as Tsukiji Betsuin, a separate temple located all over the country of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji school.
From April 1, 2012, it became a directly controlled temple as a base in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and the official name was changed to "Tsukiji Honganji".
The head priest of Tsukiji Honganji is Monshu.
The master is the representative of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji school and the head priest of Motoyama Honganji. The current master is the 25th generation, Kojun Otani.
Ancient Indian style and Jodo Shinshu's "Minna no Tera" are fused.
A round roof, a tower like a thorn, a large stone staircase and a pillar like a palace ...
This building, which suddenly sees in the land of Tsukiji, does not look like a temple at first glance, and seems to be reflected as a "somewhat mysterious, solemn building" that can be regarded as a Western style or an Indian / Asian style by people.
The rounded part is the roof of main hall, and the motif is the leaves of the bodhi tree. The lotus flower, which is also a symbol of Buddhism, is depicted in the center. This is the front face of "Tsukiji Honganji".
Heart, Bodhi tree and stained glass
The architect, Chuta Ito, left many fun designs at Tsukiji Honganji Temple.
The characteristic semicircular roof seen from the entrance is based on the leaves of a bodhi tree. In the center is the lotus flower, which is also a flower of Buddhist symbols.
