[Akira Makibuchi / Sharakusai] June 8, 2016 09:00

At the Chuo Ward Folk Tenmonkan (Time Dome Akashi), a special exhibition "Chuo-ku Modern Building Panel Exhibition" began on June 4 (Saturday). The 23 buildings in Chuo-ku are introduced with panels with explanations along with photos. The exhibition period is closed on Monday until July 3 (Sun) and admission is free. Click here.>>

0913_67_160603kenchiku.jpgA survey of modern buildings in Chuo-ku was conducted for three years from 2011, and a characteristic building was selected as one of the "100 Modern Building Surveys". The construction period covers the period from the Meiji period to 1965. Click here.>>

This panel exhibition features 23 buildings that have been approved for display from among the 100 selected buildings. The age ranged from the early Showa period after the Great Kanto Earthquake to the 40s.

These buildings are divided into three areas: Machiya, signboard architecture, and building architecture. Machiya has five traditional wooden buildings, nine of which are decorated with signboards and mortar tiles on the front, and nine buildings on the third floor or higher are reinforced concrete.

In addition to architectural commentary on the structure, the panel also has the characteristics of the building and trivia, so it is an exhibition that will be useful when walking around the town. @ Akira Makibuchi
