flood control Wisdom Exhibition [LIXIL Gallery]

[Dimini ☆ Cricket] September 12, 2016 14:00

This year, heavy rains caused by typhoons, river breaks due to torrential rains, flooding, floods, etc. have caused severe damage to various parts of Japan.

Currently, "kitchenette Mizuzuka - Wisdom and House of flood control - Exhibition" is being held at LIXIL Gallery 1 on the second floor of the Tokyo Tatemono Kyobashi Building LIXIL GINZA 3-6-18.

"kitchenette" is a storehouse built on "Mizuzuka", and "Mizuzuka" refers to stone walls and embankments piled up to the back of people.

If you look at the photos on display at the venue, you can see how people who were once suffering from river flooding and flooding have been struggling with "reduced flood control."

Flood control techniques that combine wisdom rooted in people's experiences are reflected in stone walls, embankments, and how houses are built.

The unique flood control of the area and the scenery for flood control are impressive.

Photographs of flood control architecture using 10 traditional river techniques found in major flood-prone areas across the country, including the Kiso Mikawa River in central Japan, the Tone River and Arakawa River in Kanto, and the Yoshino River River basin in Shikoku are easy to see.

In addition to photographs of flood control architecture, related models and actual agricultural tools are also exhibited at the venue.

I think it's a good opportunity to learn about the techniques of our predecessors who have lived with the river.

The period is from Thursday, September 8 to November 26 (Sat).

The museum is open from 10:00 to 18:00. Wednesday is a closed day.
