A bookstore that stimulates curiosity - LIXIL Book Gallery -

[Koedo Itabashi] January 18, 2017 09:00

While slowly going around the store, take out the book that caught my eye out from the bookshelf.

While feeling the weight of the book, go down the page quickly and jump the letters into your eyes.

Carefully align the length and width of the book and return it to the original position of the bookshelf.

The simple repetition creates a relaxed and comfortable feeling.

A light that is gentle to the eyes.

Music that quietly wraps around the store.

The faint scent suppresses the print odor of the book.

There is a bookstore where you can get in when you have time.

3-6-18, Kyobashi, Chuo-ku

This is the LIXIL Book Gallery.

It is located across Chuo-dori, opposite Tokyo Square Garden.

A 1-minute walk from Exit 2 of the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line.

By JR, I walk around for a few minutes from Tokyo Station Yaesu Minami.

LIXIL (Riku Sil) is a leading company in the construction materials and housing equipment industry.

If it was a bookstore with the name of the company, it was imagined as a mini-library of an engineering university where specialized books on architecture and equipment were lined up.

When I stepped in for the first time, the image was betrayed comfortably.

"Hey. How do you arrange books like this?"

Of course, architectural books fill a large space.

However, it was not about straightforward architectural design and structural calculations that would make engineering people want to put them beside them, but rather a layout that was far from the smell of the library in the Faculty of Engineering.

The main axis includes materials such as wood, tiles and metals, lighting considerations, and interior models that will be the components of the building.

In addition to that, in this corner, a series on eating habits, design of personal belongings, things related to tradition and local culture, animal ecology, operation of constellations, tour of building heritage, etc. are exhibited in a compact and glittering personality. I have.

The concept of the book gallery is "a book that enriches the living environment."

If you put it together, a book depicting life with a rugged cat will also become the target material.

Feels as if you were massaged in the stiff head.

The spirit of the bookstore operator was transmitted straight.

The LIXIL gallery is located next to the steak shop.

"If you display a book expressed on a plane three-dimensionally, it will be like this."

A gallery where you can hear such whispers occupies the first and second floors.

Let's turn our feet to the gallery while hanging on the magic of the book.

Correspondent Gimini ☆Cricket's introduction in December, "WASHI Paper Only Knowing and Beauty Exhibition" will be held until February 25, 2017.

Nowadays, there are few opportunities to see in everyday life, such as "Kashiko", a garment made of Japanese paper.

Even more, paper jars and gourds should not miss this machine and look at the real thing.

After leaving the gallery, I went back to the book gallery.

You may find new discoveries, from paper history, manufacturing methods, applications, and design.

The understanding of the exhibits has progressed, and I feel a little rich.
