A long-established store of fragrance ~ Ginza Koju ~ ②

[rosemary sea] 09:00 on April 2, 2017

We cover "gifts, and enjoy yourself" as a regulation, rosemary sea.

DSC02118a.jpgKoju Gokosho said last time that it was founded during the Tensho era.

This time, I would like to talk about Kaju's history.

This time again, Mr. Kitazawa, Manager of Ginza Koju Tokyo Store, gave permission to interview.

The first generation of Kaju: Mr. Mitsuhiro Yasuda Mataemon MINAMOTO no Mitsuhiro was the guardian of Totomi Province when Kamakura shogunate was established: He was a descendant of Kiyokazu Genji Yoshisada Yasuda, the twelfth descendant.

It is said that he served the Imperial Palace.

And the second generation: Masakiyo was to Taiko Hideyoshi Toyotomi, and the fourth generation: Masanaga is said to have been called by Ieyasu Tokugawa.

The eighth generation in the Edo period: Juemon Takai created many famous incenses and was said to be a master.

He is a very famous person in the world of incense.

From here on, Mr. Kaju's master will inherit "Juemon".

It is recorded that Emperor Kokaku's offering incense "Chitose", "Kouju" to Omotesenke, and "Wakakusa" to tea ceremony Yabuuchi.

Here, the fame of Kaju Neriko (described later) has increased.

※ It is also called "Nerika" (also called "Takimono"). Powdered incense trees, etc. are kneaded with honey, etc. into solid form.

Mr. Juemon wrote and wrote "Juemon Kadentakimono Oboegaki".

In the Meiji, Taisho era, and Showa eras, the goodwill of "Gokosho" was raised in Muromachi Shimochojamachi in Kyoto.

Since then, Kaju has been involved in incense in Tokyo under the name of "Ginza Kaju" as a company specializing in incense that lives today.

After half a century, Kaju returned to Kyoto in April 2016 and opened a shop in Nineizaka.

I was able to return to the place where I was born.

DSC02117a.jpgIt is the origin of the name "Koju", but there is a thing called "Kojutoku". It is a description of the usefulness and excellent characteristics of incense in four kanji characters 10. It was originally a Chinese poem.

This kojutoku became famous by the book of the Rinzai sect monk Ikkyu Sojun in the Muromachi period.

That's "Ikkyu-san," who became the model of that tonchi.

He was also a scholar and poet, and he was also a lover of incense. It is also said that he was a descendant of Emperor Gokomatsu.

Emperor Gokomatsu also loved incense and wrote and wrote a fragrant composition and research book called "Gokomatsuin Shinkan Kantakimonogata".

※ Shinkan: A document written by the Emperor

It is said that the old document of the copy exists in Mr. Kaju.

During the Tensho era, the first generation of Kaju-san was the name of spreading the ten virtue of the famous Kajutoku: It is said that Mr. Mitsuhiro Yasuda Mataemon Gen gave himself "Koju".

After more than 400 years, Mr. Kaju has delivered a number of valuable incense products, such as the traditional incense stick "Kurobo" and the incense bearing the name of the master Juemon. Has been done.
