A new street tree seedlings are planted on the west sidewalk of Ginza Chuo-dori.

Seedlings were planted on the sidewalks of 1-chome, 2-chome, and 3-chome across the Ginza 2-chome intersection where my commuting route, Ginza Marronnier Street and Chuo-dori, intersect.

This new street tree is said to be a wig tree.

Wig is a tree commonly found as a park or street tree, and is a deciduous tree that leaves yellow in autumn.

The trunk is straight, fast growing, and seems to be about 20m high.

The heart-shaped circular leaves are cute, aren't they?

By the way, the current street tree on Chuo-dori is yew.

Yew is an evergreen coniferous tree with a beautiful trunk extending straight and a beautiful conical shape.

In the past, the theory that yew was used to make a shak used by high-ranking people using yew wood, and that yew wood was much reder (= scarlet) than other wood, There is a theory that "the best scarlet" changed from "scarlet" to "one scarlet".

In the future, the west side of 1-8 chome and the east side of 4, 5, and 6 chome are all turned into wig street trees.

I'm looking forward to seeing the streets of Ginza become a pleasant street with lots of greenery for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
