[Mido] Nov. 9, 2018 09:00

It goes without saying that various industries and cultures have been born in this city since Nihonbashi became the starting point of the Gokaido in Keicho 9 (1604). And there are many "Nihonbashi-born" born from this Nihonbashi.

(1)Gift certificate 1830 <Ninben>

The origin of the gift certificate was that a silver thin plate was issued in exchange for bonito. It was devised by the sixth generation of Ninben, and it is said that a silver thin plate worth about 3,500 yen was issued at the end of the Tokugawa period.

(2)Bank 1873 <Current Mizuho Bank>

The first bank (Daiichi National Bank) opened in Kabuto-cho. In the Edo period, the first national bank centered on Mitsui Gumi and Onogumi was established in Nihonbashi with the aim of unifying the financial economy. It is said that Eiichi Shibusawa served as general supervisor. At present, there is Mizuho Bank Kabuto-cho Branch, where information boards for "the birthplace of banks" are installed.

(3)Rickshaw 1870

Yosuke Izumi, who received a rickshaw business license in 1870, ran a rickshaw for the first time in Nihonbashi. It became popular because it was easy to turn around. Nowadays, it is often seen in tourist destinations nationwide and brings out the uniqueness of Japan.

(4)Postal System 1871

It was Maejima Mitsuru, known as the "father of modern postal mail" that established the postal system. In Nihonbashi, where transportation is convenient, Ekiji (later the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications) and a postal office (currently Tokyo Central Post Office) were set up, and the postal business began. Currently, there is the Nihonbashi Post Office in this area.

(5)Food originated in Nihonbashi

・Children's Lunch Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi provided as "Miko-sama Western Food" in 1930.

・This dish was served to friends by Uteki Hayashi, the founder of Hayashi Rice Maruzen.

・Tenzaru & Tenmori Muromachi Sandbox is made into Tsukemen to eat tempura soba deliciously even in summer.

・Oyakodon Ningyocho's "Tamahide" was devised by seeing customers who eat it with rice by binding the underwater remaining in the rice cooker.

・Eitaro, the first generation of Amanatto, devised a dish made by boiling kinto beans with honey.

・The first owner of Shino Ta Sushi in Inari Sushi Ningyocho made ingenuity and sold it.

・As a souvenir of Emperor Meiji's Yukiyuki Kyoto, Yamamoto-noriten's second generation tasted seaweed. Today it is sold as "tidbits Nori".
