The season is coming! To a trip around Edo by waterway

[Shiba Inu] April 30, 2017 09:00

The cherry blossoms have passed, and the cold season has finally ended.

And he said...It is the opening of the Edo boating tour season, "Touring around the water city, Tokyo by boat"!

DSC_8601.jpg

Edo is a water city and a prosperous town based on logistics by waterways. Currently, there are many major roads in Tokyo that were originally waterways. And in Chuo-ku, there are a number of active waterways, led by the Sumida River and Nihonbashi River. Let's go around there by boat! That's a boating tour. It's not just a boat play, but a journey through the Balibari arterial road where trade boats come and go until a little more than 100 years ago, the waterway that was the gateway. In addition to the remnants of Edo, there are many remains where the gorgeous Meiji Taisho era remains. You can see Are and Chore, which can not be seen from the ground, along with the guide's explanation.

IMG_7272.jpgIs there anyone who knows where it is here?...!? (The hint is the site of a certain subway.)

Of course, I also go around the hot places now.

Toyosu planned site!

There are various types of tours, so you can choose what place, how much time, and how deep you want to see according to your preference. Each tour has a professional guide, so it's very interesting.

DSC_8580.jpgYou can also see landfills under construction in Tokyo Bay.

The boating tour is not held in winter, so the next few months will be the on-season. At that time, a wide variety of tours are held. For more information, please visit our website.

The Association for the Creation of Water City Tokyo

When you look at Tokyo in Heisei from a spacious waterway, you can see a completely different figure. I think you can also experience the people and things from Edo to the pre-war period, the flow of culture, and how to connect with neighboring areas such as Asakusa.

It is a very fulfilling event, so please come and visit Chuo-ku from the waterway in the coming warm season.

By the way...

This is for those who say, "I like bridges rather than rivers!"

IMG_3385.jpg"Bridge Pocket Map" edited by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Construction. It is a wonderful book that covers major rivers and bridges in Tokyo.

It's like this when you open the inside.

IMG_3386.jpgEach one is pocket-sized, 5 books in total. The price of the box set that contains all is 800 yen. It is also sold at the Kachidokibashi Museum, located at the base of Kachidokibashi. I don't really recommend these maps.

A horse's toothbrush

[Koedo Itabashi] April 24, 2017 09:00

The feeling of the head (bringing part) that hits the gums is comfortable.

Is this the hair of the horse's tail?

Speaking of the tail, it's supple strength to hit the noisy flies.

It is a delicate softness that overturns that image.

Animal hair is used for brushes and clothes brushes.

Anything that touches the skin is hairdressing brushes and makeup brushes.

It has never been familiar as a material for toothbrushes to put in the mouth.

When I use it, I feel that it has been polished and the surface of my teeth has become smooth.

※ This is a personal impression.

At 2-16 Nihonbashi Daidenmacho, there is Edoya, a specialty store for brushes and brushes.

Looking forward to visiting the Chuo-ku Machikado Exhibition Hall, we visited the Edoya Collection Brush Exhibition Hall on the opening weekday.

Even if you look closely at the exterior of the store facing Otemmacho Street, it looks like a brush.

This building is designated as the registered Tangible Cultural Property of the country.

When entering the store, on the left and right showcases, Edo brushes, which are traditional crafts designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and materials related to brushes and brushes were displayed.

When I called out to the store, I took some of the cases and touched it.

"The oldest of these is this lacquer brush.

It is a necessity for applying lacquer to wood in the process of making lacquerware.

It's made of women's hair."

In historical dramas, etc., the figure of a rugged wife who sells her own black hair and manages her household finances is depicted, but the black hair was used not only as a wig material but also as a brush material.

"Brushes are a method of planting hair bundles on the handle, and have spread since the Meiji era.

The brush is made of hair sandwiched between boards."

When I looked at the real thing while receiving the explanation, I really understood the difference.

Edoya seems to have been founded in Kyoho 3 (1716).

The name of the shop was given by the ancestor who was a brush master of the Shogun family.

Speaking of the Kyoho era, isn't it the time of the 8th Shogun Yoshimune Tokugawa?

It is a long-established store that has been around for 300 years since its establishment.

Edo brushes are created from the careful handwork of craftsmen using natural materials.

The luxury that you can use the work on a daily basis in your daily life.

There were several bundles of hair hanging on the ceiling, which used as materials for brushes and brushes.

Surely, there are some rare materials that you can't imagine.

I'll come with my wife next time, so please let me know again.

Nara Saidaiji Temple Exhibition

[Marsha Horiuchi of Edo] April 20, 2017 14:00

For the author who was born in Osaka, Japan's history is the capital of Heian-kyo (794) in Kyoto.
I think that the "Nara, Saidaiji Temple Exhibition" at the Mitsui Memorial Museum reminded me of the fact that there were capitals in Heijo-kyo and Nara before that.

In the late Nara period, Saidaiji Temple was built relative to the world-famous Todaiji Temple in the Great Buddha, and after the rise and fall of the times, in the middle of the Kamakura period, a high priest named Eison had the philosophy of "Koho Toshisei" and focused on medical welfare along with Buddhist law and tried to rescue the people.

The Ochamori ceremony, which is held every year in Saidaiji Temple in April and October, seems to be a sign of "sharing hard happiness with everyone", which is often forgotten.

There are many Buddha statues, metal Esoteric Buddhism tools, sutras and Buddhist paintings in gallery space.
All of them are elaborate, and as always, they are surprised that they were made around 1,000 years ago.
In particular, Eison (Kosei Bodhisattva) seated statue feels like he is still living in a temple somewhere (a 90-year-old large birth), and the gentle gaze of the statue of Manjushri, the anger of Aizen Myo, and the rage of seated statue (judicating the messenger in the underworld) are conveyed.

At the Mitsui Museum of Art, you may be able to do the meditation for a while, the mindset necessary for a busy modern age.

It will be held until June 11th.

Immerse yourself in an art feeling with Tokyo Art Antique

[saru] April 18, 2017 16:00

DSC_1240z.jpgHello, my name is Saru.

On the 15th, after completing an errand at Kyobashi and walking along the back street, I saw people with red and white pamphlets. When I look around again, the red flag and the poster were everywhere. It says "Sukiyoro, the city of art Tokyo Art Antique". Kyobashi / Nihonbashi is an art city known to those who know it, and I remembered that the Tokyo Art Antique is held once a year as a local event where you can easily experience art. I was hesitant for a moment, with almost no connection with painting or antique, but as a correspondent, I went to an antique shop called "Yarai deka". There were old Jomon pottery and Sue pottery as vases, and I was surprised that there was such a way to use it. After that, about 10 stores saw exhibitions of cat paintings, ancient Orient art, Kitaoji Rosanjin exhibition, ceramics and pottery. Of course, there are items for sale, and there are special sales only during this period. Last but not least, "Maison Don Cat" featured paintings, old Dutch tiles, Kutani porcelain, etc. on the theme of living things, and gave me a polite explanation. Rieko Kawabata, the creator of Kutani porcelain's work and painter, came to hear the story. Kawabata's work is a wonderful composition with delicate lines and points, vivid colors and harmonious. It seems to draw on the basic form painted with glaze and baked, but I am surprised to draw such fine lines one by one with a brush. He seems to burn each color, and even small ones will spend a considerable amount of time to complete. On this day, I was able to go only a few of the nearly 90 participating stores, but I had a good time. I think there are many people who find it a little difficult to enter a gallery or an antique shop. As with me, I look around this time and think that the threshold has become much lower. Ginza Sakura-dori St. 2017 Ginza Six April 20 Silver Bra Report

[Silver] April 17, 2017 18:00

On April 16th (Sun), more than 20 double cherry trees are in full bloom on the sidewalks of the antenna shops "Ibaraki Marche" and "Food Kuni Fukuikan" in Ginza 1-chome. I enjoyed the cherry blossom viewing of Yae-zakura in the direction of Ginza 1-chome police box. Is it best to see the Yae-zakura of Ginza Sakura-dori St. until around April 20?

1492325690284.jpg

After that, the United States guided the couple from Portland, Oregon, who wanted to go to "Hatoido".

1492325927775.jpg

On the way, I joined a group that guides in English. They visited Ginza Sakura-dori St., behind the alleys of Ginza, famous shops, etc.

The weather was fine, so many people were enjoying the pedestrian paradise.

If you come to the front of Ginza Six, which opened on April 20, people who can't wait for the store to open.

1492336309258.jpg

I also met a group of four young women walking around Ginza with kimono. The kimono looks good in Ginza, isn't it?
