75th Anniversary <Tsukiji Market Festival>

[Sam] October 13, 2010 15:00

Tsukiji Market Festival S.jpg  Tsukiji Market is the 75th anniversary of its opening this year. I heard that the festival was aging and recently postponed, but on October 10, the day of the fish, the Tsukiji Market Festival, a large event for the first time in seven years, was held.

The Tsukiji Market Festival is open by Tokyo Metropolitan Government and wholesalers to learn about the structure and history of the market, deepen their understanding of fresh foods, and improve eating habits and spread food education. What you have.

"Let's think about 'food' together!" Under the catchphrase "Let's experience professional skills and smartness!", At the venue, there will be a panel introducing the history of the market, a spot sale corner for fresh fish, shellfish, processed goods, fruits and vegetables, Edo Tokyo vegetables, a simulation store, etc. In addition, a tuna dismantling show, a talk show on "food", a fish touch pool, and a playground equipment "Whale Aquarium" (Fuwafuwafuwa), an electric ride.

It was crowded with 70,000 visitors, just like the last 2003 "Tsukiji Market Festival commemorating the 400th anniversary of the opening of the Edo period." (Incidentally, the number of regular visitors is 14,000 for market workers and 28,000 for buyers, etc.)

On October 16th, the Tsukiji Autumn Festival will be held at the Tsukiji Outer Market.

Retro Shopping Street <Tsukishima Nishinaka-dori>

[Sam] 13:00 on October 5, 2010

RIMG2022RS.JPGThe current Tsukishima was built in 1892 as the first landfill in Tokyo Bay.

Many factories and warehouses were located one after another in the area, as well as many jobs and workers' housings were built, and the population increased rapidly. It is said that Nishinaka-dori was formed at the end of the Meiji era as a shopping street for the procurement of food and daily necessities for these residents.

I heard that the population increased further from the Taisho era to the early Showa era, and street vendors were lined up on the street. Fortunately, except for a small part, the city survived the war and was quickly restored after the war. In 1946, the shopping streets that were divided into individual were integrated and newly established as "Tsukishima Nishinaka Kyoueikai Shopping Street".

In 1987, Kyodo Shisetsu, a semi-mall-style downtown area (arcades with current gable roofs, street trees, gates, information boards, color pedestrian paths, etc.) was completed and continues to the present day.

Although it has been newly renovated, behind the arcade, in addition to the traditional "girder structure" and "signboard architecture", traces of old signs that show the type of business at a glance can be seen everywhere.

Nishinaka-dori, which was originally started by a candy store for children, now attracts visitors to Nishinaka-dori, which is completely familiar as Monja Street.

Along with the changes in the surrounding environment, when you see the changes in the business format from the type of business on the signboard behind the arcade, the transfer to a monjayaki shop, etc., you can feel the transition of the times.

On weekends, it is crowded with many visitors, but in addition to the monjayaki, in addition to the cityscape that retains the remnants of Showa, please look up above and enjoy the history of the shopping street.

Autumn <Rooftop Garden>

[Sam] October 1, 2010 14:30

RIMG0442S.JPG RIMG0461ARS.JPGSt. Luke's International Hospital is a hospital with a history founded in 1902. The current building, completed in 1992, has 520 beds and the average number of outpatients per day is 2,500.

Since its establishment, the goal has been to provide patient-centered medical care and nursing under the spirit of Christianity.

In addition, it is said that in the event of a large-scale disaster, the function is temporarily expanded and medical treatment can be performed. (Three years after completion, it was regrettablely demonstrated in the subway sarin incident in 1995.)

As introduced in the "Rooftop Garden to Heal the Heart" on May 11, a rooftop garden with the theme of light and greenery is attached to the 6th floor.

At this time, the Tsurubara tunnel is fruitful (upper right photo), and it is not as gorgeous as the spring flowers are in full bloom, but it provides a place to relax with seasonal vegetation.

Concerts and health lectures are also held at the Toysler Memorial Hall on the 2nd floor.           RIMG0441RS.JPG   Cosmos RS.JPG   Kawaranadesico RS.JPG
