"Hana Kaido" started in December 2002 as a one-year social experiment commemorating the 400th anniversary of the opening of Edo, and began in December 2002.

After that, with the support of the “Nihonbashi Preservation Society” and “Nihonbashi Regional Renaissance 100-Year Planning Committee”, the “Nihonbashi Regional Renaissance 100-Year Planning Committee”.

Co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's Tokyo National Highway Office, the NPO "Hana Kaido" is a water magistrate (watering flower beds and cleaning sidewalks by volunteers of town council members along the local road) and a flower magistrate (four times a year, seasonal flowers) It is implemented with the cooperation of people, companies and organizations that provide the cost of blooming, and town associations, shopping associations, and regional revitalization organizations.

Kyobashi-dori, where the streetcar passes, can be seen as a lively street where rickshaws and carts come and go in the past. In the last four years, buildings and houses were destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake.

Well, take a closer look at the pictures. There is a sign saying "Kabuto Beer" on top of the building.

I don't see kabuto beer now, but it seems to have been famous at that time. That's why I've studied a little bit about beetle, so I'll introduce you.

The origin of beer
"Kabuto Beer" was born in Handa City, Chita Peninsula, Aichi Prefecture.

Even today, about two-thirds of the red brick buildings (Note 2) of the beer factory still remain, making it a tourist spot.

It is a factory that manufactured "Kabuto Beer" from the Meiji era to the end of the Pacific War and sent it out nationwide.

In September of last year (2010), the inside of the red brick building was opened to the public.

Chita Peninsula has been flourishing in the brewing industry since ancient times, and the vinegar Mizkan (Headquarters in Handa City, Aichi Prefecture), fermented sake such as sake, miso, and tamari and other seasonings have been nurtured.

"Kabuto Beer" was launched by Marusan Beer Co., Ltd. in 1899.

We boldly challenged the four major manufacturers in the cities of Asahi (Osaka), Sapporo (Sapporo), Kirin (Yokohama), and Ebisu (Tokyo) from a local city called Handa.

He was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Expo in 1900 (1900).

Kabuto Beer, which competes with a major manufacturer, has developed elaborate advertising. In the early 20th century, it became the fifth largest market share in Japan.

Later, beer production in the red brick building was discontinued in 1943 and used as a clothing warehouse for Nakajima Aircraft Works during World War II. And even after the end of the war, there was no production of beetle.

Reprint of beer 

  On June 4, 2005, a limited number of 3,000 bottles of Kabuto Beer from the Meiji and Taisho eras were reprinted by the Red Brick Club of Handa in Chita Peninsula.

The reprinted Kabuto Beer is said to have the characteristic of Meiji beer, "reddish brown, strong taste and strong hops, aged 3 months, and stronger alcohol content." It is said that the bottle was similar to that time.

There is only one restaurant in Tokyo, but you can drink a reprinted beer.

On the east side of the city is the Sumida River and Ryogoku Bridge, and on the northern Kanda River, there are Yanagibashi and Asakusabashi at the exit of the Sumida River.

 

There is a characteristic point of access to Yagenbori Fudoin. That's a rare six-way street. This is the point where Fudoin-dori, Yanagibashi-dori, and Naka-dori, where Fudoin is located, intersect.

There is a gas station at the intersection, so it seems easy to understand if you go there.

 

②I heard about the historical story of the city. He talked while looking at the map of the Edo period on the shop.

In this area, Hashizume, on this side of Ryogoku Bridge, Ryogoku Hirokoji was built as a fire protection area for the great fire of Edo, and it was one of the best places in Edo, which was crowded with playhouses, tea mise, and stalls. It seems that it was.

 

Also, on both sides of Yanagibashi on the Kanda River, there were famous restaurants since the Edo period.

 

Until the first half of the Showa era, geishas often came to this area for shopping with their husbands who came to a restaurant in Yanagibashi, and many black-painted cars came.

 

In the fireworks festival of Ryogoku Bridge, a pier was set up in Sumida river’s edge near this area, and river boats were lined up tightly, attracting a large number of spectators.

 

Recently, convenience stores and izakaya chain stores have entered the shopping district, and it seems that the number of retail stores has decreased due to the declining population due to the construction of buildings and the sluggishness of wholesale districts, but there are also shops that continue to follow the traditional tradition There is.

 

③I asked you about the shops of the store association.

It seems that there is a shop in Higashi Nihonbashi 2-chome that has continued since the Edo period and the early Meiji period.

 

It is said that the "Oki Tang Karashi store" of seven colors red pepper was founded in the middle of the Edo period, and Chairman Ozaki said that it was the oldest in this area.

 

 

 

 

 

"Horitsu Chapo" was founded in 1717 and is also old here.

It is a long-established Japanese tea specialty store that has been set up on the present Higashinihombashi "Suzuran Street" for 90 years.

 

"Littlemermaid" is located at the intersection of a six-way street, but it seems that his predecessor was a bakery founded in Meiji period, and was famous for Milk Hall.

Toriyasu, a duck dish in front of Nihonbashi Junior High School, is a long-established store founded in 1872.

 

The duck restaurant "Ahigamo Sukiyaki Course" is one of the famous long-established stores that has been serving only one dish for nearly 140 years.

 

"Nihonbashi Kibundo", run by Chairman Ozaki, is famous for baked goods such as doll ware and rice crackers.

 

Mr. Ozaki, the owner, says, "We are a new person in history." However, it seems that it has been about 70 years since it was founded in the beginning of Showa.

These old shops are decorated with old photographs of this town where the old Ryogokubashi and Yagenbori Fudoin are located, and if you go to the shop, you will definitely see it.

 

Mr. Ozaki made a handwritten map of the Yagenbori Town Association in the early Taisho era, and a large picture of Sajiki , which was crowded with customers on the banks of the Sumida River during fireworks festival in both countries.

There is a drug shop "Tamaki" in this shopping street. In Tamaki-san's building, there was a signboard of the famous women's drug "Nakashoyu" sold at Tsumura Juntendo.

In the Edo era, there were many doctors in this Yakken drilling, and during the Tenpo era, a Dutch medical school "Wada Juku" was established, making it the birthplace of Juntendo University.

The Higashinihombashi and Genbori Shotenkai have various events, but they are said to be held around the 28th of every month, which is the fair of Yagenbori Fudoin.

 

Famous at the event are "Yagenbori Mobile Shopping Street" and "Yagenbori no Toshinoichi". This year's "12th Yagenbori Moving Shopping Street" was held on Friday, October 29 and 30 (Sat).

It is said that "Yagenbori no Toshinoichi" will be held 42 times, but it will be held for three days from December 27 (Mon) to 30 (Wed).

 

 

In December, Toshinoichi in Tokyo, which sells New Year's goods, began visiting Fukagawa Hachiman in December and visiting Asakusa Kannon, Kanda Myojin, Yushima Tenjin, etc.

Finally, it is paid at "Yagenbori Fudoin's Toshinoichi", so it is called "Yagenbori no Toshinoichi".

 

In the past, Hagoita used to go around, but recently it has disappeared.

 

It seems that the New Year's goods market was also called the so-called "gasa city", and "Yagenbori no Toshiichi" was opened around 1975, with 200 stores opening and overflowing until Kiyosugi-dori.

The Yagenbori district is also the birthplace of the talk, and every month, the Yagenbori fair talk meeting is held at Fudoin Hondo Hall on the 28th of Fudoin fair. I'd like to say it once.

As the first step in the revitalization plan, we regard the six-way road near Yagenbori Fudoin as a landmark of this store association.

It seems that only the road at the intersection is planned to color "Edo-purple".

Yagenbori Fudoin: In 1585, the Daiin monk capital of Kishu Negoro-ji Temple descended to the eastern country with a statue to avoid the fire of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, and built Dou on the banks of the Sumida River. It seems that it was the beginning of Yagenbori Fudoin.

At present, it is Omotoyama Kawasakidaishi Hirama-ji Tokyo Betsuin, and has long been known as Edo San Ofudo along with Meguro and Mejiro.

In addition, this road is a road created by reclaiming a river called the Ryukan River (the name of the Edo period was "Kandabori") that connected the Nihonbashi River and Hamacho River in the Edo period. [Reference]

The name of the JR guard near this area also uses the bridge name of the Ryukagawa River and the name of the town at that time.

In Imagawa Koji under the guard of the Shirahata Bridge, there is a lot to do.

At its peak, about 30 small izakayas gathered. The size of the Shirohata Bridge guard is about 10m wide and about 50m long.

I heard that the izakaya was crowded here.

Recently, due to the construction of the Tohoku Transit Line, unfortunately the store has disappeared about 20m, the eastern half of Imagawa Koji.

Still, in the western half of Imagawa Koji,Chuo-kuOn the side, there are izakayas of "Kanda", "Marise", "Sato", "Tagayasu", and "Gaadoshita".

The izakaya "Kanda" was decorated with photos of actors "Jinpachi Nezu", "Takehiro Murata", and mom's three shots. It seems that he stopped by when he was filming at Imagawa Koji.

[Reference]　Ryukan River and Bridge

It is said that the Ryukan River was dug during the Edo period (although it is said to be both the Tenna period and Genroku 4 (1691), and at that time, "Kanda moat" (also known as silver moat, Kanda Hatchobori, fire removal (hike) moat).

It is assumed that Yaji-san and Kita-san of the masterpiece "Tokaido Naka-Kurige" by Juppenshaikku lived in this Kanda Hatchobori.

 

This moat was reclaimed once in late Tokugawa shogunate's Ansei 4 (1857), and was dug again in Meiji 16 (1883) to name the river "Ryukangawa".

 

The origin of the name of the Ryukan River seems to be derived from the name of Ryukan Bridge, which was located at the exit of the Nihonbashi River during the Kandabori period, without being abandoned until the re-excavation in 1883. It is said that Ryukan's name was because Ryukan Inoue, the entertainment monk of the castle, lived nearby. Since the water quality of the Ryukan River gradually deteriorated and became sewage, a large sewer pipe at the bottom of the river was buried in 1950 and flowed through it, and the river was reclaimed and became a road (Ryukan Shindo). It is up to this day.

 Regarding the reclamation of the Ryukan River, go east on the Ryukan Shindo from Imagawa Koji and go to Showa-dori. There is a monument describing the history of the reclamation there.

 

 

The bridge of the Ryukagawa River, according to the "Map Monogatari Nihonbashi on that day" published at Takeagedo, the Ryukagawa River around 1907 was 1 "Ryukabashi", 2 "Shirohata Bridge" (beggar bridge), 3 "Nishijinnakanobashi" (main water bridge) bridge, 3 "Nishinakanobashi" (main water bridge) bridge.

In addition, the name in parentheses is the name of the bridge in the Edo period, such as Edo Kirie (Kaei era 3, Oomiya Gohei board).

Among them, Imagawa Bridge is said to be a bridge named after the local village headman Zenemon Imagawa during the Edo period.

The first bridge from Nihonbashi to Nakasendo was Imagawa Bridge. It is depicted in "Kidai Shoran" and "Edo Famous Pictures".

At present, a monument stands at the site of Imagawa Bridge. In addition, the example "Imagawa-yaki", which is also called "large-sized grill" or "rotary grill", is called "Imagawa-yaki".

It is said that while selling baked goods near this bridge, it was named "Imagawa-yaki".

 

 

The concrete "Ryukan Bridge" built in 1926 is preserved where the road of Imagawa Koji exits Sotobori-dori St.
