The basics of walking around the city are walking.

My basic approach to various places in Chuo-ku was to walk from each station on the Yamanote Line.

There are many subways running in the ward, but depending on the destination, you have to straddle multiple routes.

If you think, "Oh, come this way.", "Is it easier to understand if you walk?"

This summer, I had the opportunity to concentrate on using Metrolink Nihonbashi.

It's convenient. It's easy.

　

Metrolink Nihonbashi is a free fare bus that travels around the Yaesu, Nihonbashi, and Kyobashi areas.

It runs about 4 km per lap every 10 to 15 minutes.

There are 14 bus stops.

・It connects the main facilities on the east side of Tokyo Station, such as Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit, Subway Mitsukoshimae Station, Muromachi 1-chome (in front of Ninben), Nihonbashi 2-chome (in front of Takashimaya), and Kyobashi 2-chome (edgran).

It is important to note that it goes in one direction, so you want to keep the destination and bus route in advance.

There are some bus stops that are difficult for first-time people to notice.

Be especially careful on Chuo-dori, as other vehicles may be parked on the road.

　

The "Free Tour Bus" app is a great help when using it.

Put it on your smartphone and display "Metrolink Nihonbashi" from the menu.

You can see the current location of the map, route, and bus.

You can also select the bus stop notation in the app in English, Hangul, Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

If you know the current location of the bus and the estimated arrival time in real time, you can move more systematically.

　

The bus is operated by Hinomaru Motor Industry with the support of local companies.

Vehicles also have low floor, low noise and low pollution electric buses.

The stress of users when riding is also kept low.

And the ring-shaped design on the bus body depicts the "Edo Famous Picture Screen".

It is a work that vividly depicts Nihonbashi and Kyobashi during the Edo period.

Kyobashi was the place where the first bridge from Nihonbashi to Kyoto was located.　I am delighted that those who travel long will be able to take a short break.

 

 

Did you know that there is a women's volleyball team in Nihonbashi that belongs to the V2 league and fights?

I was surprised to learn about it for the first time.

In addition, we asked about the background at the time of the team's founding, the path to this day, the current activities rooted in Chuo-ku, etc., and we would like to have everyone know and support it throughout Chuo-ku. I will introduce you.

"GSS Tokyo Sunbeams" is a women's volleyball team based in Chuo-ku.

As of October 2018, I belong to the V2 League.

Green Support Systems Co., Ltd. (Headquarters; 1-8-7, Nihonbashi Muromachi), a temporary staffing company.

This time, we spoke with President Fueki of the company (also the director of the team) and Mr. Okano of the Business Promotion Office.

Founded in March 2004, several experienced volleyball joined the company, and the desire to "start volleyball" was triggered. In 2008, he was promoted to the V Challenge League as early as possible.

The team name "Sunbeams" is said to have been named as a team color that does not always lose bright and shine like the sun and a fast attack like sunlight, and the team character is "Sunbeams-kun".

The cap on the head represents the green of the golf course, indicating that the business originated from dispatching human resources to the golf course.

He usually practices after renting elementary and junior high schools in Chuo-ku and the gymnasium of the athlete's university, and after working hours after regular work.

In addition, this team conducts on-site volleyball classes, and offers classes for children at Ginza Junior High School and Nihonbashi Junior High School in Chuo-ku.

The opening game of GSS Tokyo Sunbeams will be held on Saturday, November 10 next month at Sunbeams' home game at the general sports center in Hamacho Park.

My opponent is Victorina Himeji.

The Mitsui Memorial Museum has been attracted to the catch of "the moment when a Buddhist teacher becomes an artist." I was invited by a friend who loves Buddha statues, but I was surprised when I entered. There are many women of the age of high school students to university students with a notepad near the entrance. "Buddha statues girls" seem to have been increasing for several years, but this is the first time I have encountered such a large number of Buddha statues girls. A friend of a former Buddha statue girl said, "When we used to say" I like Buddha statues ", I thought it was a strange person ... ""

This exhibition was "Exhibition of Buddha statues with various expressions in one place with the face, decoration, movement and pose of Buddha statues" (exhibition pamphlet), and under the caption, "Here is the highlight ..." It is very interesting because the curator's comments are attached. My friend has solidified in front of the statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva in the Kamakura period. I think you like it. "Because it's a private store, I don't know when I can meet next time." I liked the statues of Amida Buddha and Ryo attendant Buddhist statues at Shitennoji Temple. These two attendant Buddhist statues, Kannon Bosatsu and Seshi Bodhisattva, twisting the body a little and raising one leg. As if they were dancing.

Moreover, the plump face and body look like Southeast Asia, and it seems that there is no sense of discomfort even at the ruins of Bali. Many statues of Vaisravana are also on display, but each pose is varied and I am surprised by the variety of expressions by Buddhist priests. The last room is a copy and restoration work by a sculpture science student at Tokyo University of the Arts, which is also amazing.

According to "Chuo-ku Street Trees managed by Chuo-ku" on the website of Chuo-ku.
There are 36 maple trees in the Kyobashi area, 47 in the Nihonbashi area, and 0 in the Tsukishima area.
It seems that 254 trees are planted in the Kyobashi area, 127 trees in the Nihonbashi area, and 103 maple trees in the Tsukishima area.
Because of the beautiful autumn leaves, they are street trees in all cities nationwide.

In such Chuo-ku, there is another thing related to "Momiji".
That's Momijigawa.
In Chuo-ku, there are still existing rivers such as the Sumida River and the Nihonbashi River, while many rivers have disappeared due to landfills.
The Kaede River is also one of the rivers that disappeared.



As you can see on this information board, the Kaedegawa used to be a Dansho Bridge.

This bridge is an unnamed bridge in the Kanei era, Shoo era, and Meiryaku era.
In the figure of 1700 (Genroku 13), it is described as "Togoehashi" (Togoshi Bridge) of unknown origin, and it became a bullsho bridge derived from Shimada Dansho Shosuke, who later had mansion in Hatchobori.
The street network was improved through the municipal reform project in 1913 (Daisho 2), and a new bullsho bridge was erected upstream of the bridge, and at the same time the old bullsho bridge was renamed the former bullsho bridge and survived. However, it has been abandoned due to land readjustment of the earthquake reconstruction project.

However, this bridge is Japan's first domestic bridge manufactured at the Akabane Plant of the Ministry of Construction at the request of the Tokyo Government.
In May 1929, Tokyo City decided to relocate and preserve the Hachiman Bridge at Tomioka 1-chome in May 1929.



So when I went to Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine, I crossed the old Dansho Bridge.



In fact, this bridge is also the oldest existing iron bridge in Tokyo and the second oldest in Japan!
By the way, the oldest in Japan is Ryokuchi Nishibashi (formerly Shinsaibashi) in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture.
These are introduced in the Japan Bridge Construction Association, "100-Year Bridge: Reliable Technologies for the Next Generation" (p. 17).

It is also characterized by a pin with chrysanthemum emblems reflecting the national prestige, unique to a bridge built for the first time in a government-run factory.



It is a valuable bridge in the history of modern bridges as a transitional iron bridge from the cast iron bridge to the iron bridge.
In 1989, he received the Japan Society of Civil Engineers' Honor Award from the Civil Engineers of the United States for the Wipple-type truss bridge based on the patents of American Squire-Wipple.
