I would like to introduce a book from Chuo-ku.

[May rain George] February 6, 2019 09:00

The other day, I got two books published by Chuo-ku, so I will introduce them.

1."Bridge of Chuo-ku, Hashizume Plaza-Chuo-ku Modern Bridge Survey-"

(Edited and issued by the Chuo-ku Board of Education in 1998 / ¥1,900 (at the time of issuance))

CD3E8CA5-FE07-46D3-8BFB-E0FBBBD2CCB0.jpeg
I've written on this blog before, but I, May Rain George likes an unrivaled bridge. The spiritual man says that my ancestors were bridge craftsmen (surveying and design).

※A previous bridge-related article
/archive/2017/07/post-4453.html (Street of Bridge)
/archive/2017/05/-2322270.html (about the bridge and its name)

"Chuo-ku Bridge / Hashizume Plaza-Chuo-ku Modern Bridge Survey-" was shown by the owner of a long-established restaurant acquaintance in Ningyocho. When I contacted the ward office, it was already out of print. I really wanted it, so I found it online. Somethings in a very good condition were available cheaply.

▲At the time of publication, it was introduced in the Asahi Shimbun.

As described in the "Chuo-ku Cultural Properties Survey Report Vol. 5", this report investigates all bridges in Chuo-ku from a professional standpoint of modern bridges built from the Meiji era to the early Showa era. It is.
The contents are broadly divided into <Part 1 length / analysis> <Part 2 ledger> and <Part 3 material>. In the first part, we analyze bridges in Chuo-ku from various perspectives, such as time-specific, bridge design characteristics, earthquake disaster and reconstruction. The second part summarizes the history, characteristics, and design of all bridges across each river, along with photographs and drawings. Part 3 summarizes the date of groundbreaking and completion, length, width, format, construction cost, etc. in a list.
This report on about 360 pages, including A4 size and color pages, contains photographs of the bridge that are currently reclaimed by the river and only the name of the bridge remains, and photographs of the bridge before it was newly rebuilt and its surroundings. I think that it has increased its presence as a valuable historical material.

2."Walking in Chuo Ward---Visit Historic Sites and History-" 9 books

(Edited and published by the Public Relations Office, Chuo-ku Planning Department)

The second book is "Walking in Chuo Ward--Visit Historic Sites and History-". This is a new book version of the "Walking in the Ward", which was serialized in the public relations paper of Chuo-ku from 1985 to 2010, which has been further enhanced. After the first volume was published in 1988, it was published in the world every few years, two and three volumes, and completed in 2013 by the publication of the ninth volume (final volume).

It is "Chuo Mayor" that writes "First" at the beginning of each book, but I also respect that Mr. Hidehide Yada has been serving as mayor by himself for the past 25 years of publication of these nine books. I want to show it.

In the early spring of 2019, we hang around Harumi.

[May rain George] January 11, 2019 18:00

As a custom of the past few years, I use the day of the New Year holidays to walk around Kachidoki and Harumi. This area seems to be a construction rush for the Tokyo Olympics next year. As a result, this year it was a little restless sight. There were many places under construction, and Harumi Wharf Park was also off-limits.

First of all, I went to Toyo-in, where the tombstone of Jukasha 19 is located in the indoor cemetery. At the entrance, there are an explanatory version and nineteen stone monuments written by Musei Tokugawa.

Cross the Niijima Bridge on Kiyosumi-dori, turn left at the second traffic light and head for Asashio Kobashi. Asashio Kobashi is a bridge dedicated to bicycles and pedestrians.

Next, we headed for the Harumi Trade Fair venue monument I visited for the first time. It was located in a corner of the premises of the Central District Incineration Plant. My debut at the Tokyo Motor Show was here (nostalgic....)

From the chimney of the Incineration Plant to Harumi Wharf.
I'm building a number of large buildings. For this reason, there are many roads that are restricted to traffic, and a few years ago, Harumi Wharf, which could be seen from a distance, is difficult to see. If you finally arrive at the passenger ship terminal, this time the adjacent Harumi Wharf Park is off-limits!

However, I was relieved to find a series of hearts that I found a few years ago, a self-proclaimed "power spot that calls happiness". Can you find it?

At the end of this Burari Walk, I went home from Harumi Island Triton Square, crossing the simple and beautiful "Sakura Kobashi", which opened last year.

"Coffee Daishoken" (Nihonbashi Ningyocho)

[May rain George] December 16, 2018 14:00

If you stop by Nihonbashi Ningyocho, there is a coffee shop that you should definitely visit. That is "Coffee Daishoken" on the street two north of amazake Yokocho. The name of a restaurant that doesn't look like a coffee shop. Speaking of Daishoken, Tsukemen shops have become famous these days, but Ningyocho has a completely different system, but there is a headquarters of "Chinese cuisine Daishoken", which has a long history. is.

k Signboard. jpg

"Coffee Daishoken" often drops in after lunch with my colleagues from the company. This time, I decided to listen to the story again because there was too much uncertainty on the Internet, and the owner of the shop was confused.

We talked to the current owner, Yutaro Watanabe (5th generation of Daishoken) and his mother Chieko (4th generation).

On the wall on the right side of the store, there is a book with the name of "Daishoken". I'm surprised because it is said that the hero of the Russo-Japanese War, General Nogi (Maresuke Nogi) was written. On the left of the book, there is a sign of "Tamewatabe-san" indicating that it is a gift to the first owner Watanabe, and indeed Maresuke Nogi. The name of the store "Daishoken" seems to have been named for its auspicious name in commemoration of its great victory in the Russo-Japanese War. It doesn't seem clear how it was, but General Nogi often seemed to come to play around Yanagibashi, and at that time he met for something. ..

t The name of Daishoken. jpg

▲Name (Book: Maresuke Nogi)

In the first place, "China's Cooking Daishoken" is Hannosuke Watanabe (born 1858!), the founder of Daishoken. However, it starts when I met Rin Ninken, a Chinese who was doing business at a stall. Mr. Hayashi was a young man who came to Japan from Guangdong at the age of 20 in 1905, and was doing business at stalls. At that time, Hannosuke, who was an oil wholesaler, decided to hire Mr. Hayashi as the chef to open a Chinese restaurant, probably because of the intuition of the merchant. However, Hannosuke died in the middle of his desire to open a business. Matsuzo, who had been adopted, changed his name to the second generation Hannosuke, took over the first will, and finally opened "China Miku Daishoken" in Naniwacho (currently Ningyocho) in 1913. I opened it.

IMG_2894.JPG

▲Left: 1986 Head Office, Middle: April 1933 Asakusa Branch, right: At the time of 1928

From the Taisho era to the Showa era, this neighborhood is full of vaudeville Suehiro, Meijiza, dance halls, cinemas, Suitengu, restaurants, etc., and Daishoken is also thriving. In the 1950s and 1950s, it expanded to three branches and 17 goodwill branches. Currently, four of them are active (Nihonbashi Honmachi store, Nihonbashi Yokoyama-cho store, Asakusabashi store, Shinkawa store).

S50s_Mitsukoshi Event.jpg

▲An event held in Mitsukoshi in the 1950s.

It seems that the order for food was delivered to Mitsukoshi from what was made at a shop in Ningyocho.

Why is the main store Ningyocho store now becoming a coffee shop with a different business format?

My mother (Chieko Watanabe) lost her husband early and became a widow in her thirties. I thought about closing the store when I decided to rebuild the store and house. It takes about a year and a half to build, and even if you find a temporary store, you will borrow it for a short period of time, what should your employees do. Due to various problems overlapping, after discussing with Yutaro, the fifth generation, he decided to work further.

Both the deceased husband and Yutaro love coffee. Two mothers and children went to a coffee classroom to study, and in 1988, changed their business to a coffee shop and opened. The name of the store will be left for the successive owners who have protected the main store, and for each store that has been allowed to distribute goodwill and has been operating until now, the name of "Daishoken" is left. It seems that he decided. Mom says. "I'm grateful to the people who have been taking over" Daishoken "for generations and the customers who have been involved in this coffee shop for 30 years in Heisei."

c Chieko. jpg

▲Mom (Chieko Watanabe)

I was able to listen to the story while showing valuable materials.

Well, the current "Coffee Daishoken". The customer service is in charge of a cheerful mother (Chieko), who is 90 years old. "I want to do my best until the Tokyo Olympics," he said. No, no, my mother is still strong and my teeth are all my own, so I don't think it's the Olympics, but I think the Osaka Expo is an Ochanoko Saisai!

The history and name of the Chinese restaurant are all mentioned, but in fact, I would like to tell you more about this restaurant. That's because coffee is very delicious. The owner, Yutaro, will make a cup of coffee with a paper filter drip with heart after receiving the order.

The menu includes blends, Americans, 5 regular straight coffees (Kilimanjaro, Mandelin, Guatemala, Mokamatari, Colombia), and recommended beans (now Ethiopia). Other drinks such as milk, tea, cocoa, and juice.

Coffee. jpg
First of all, we recommend a blend of 400 yen. If you drink a blend, you can see the strength of the shop. The design of the coffee cup is also wonderful.

When it was opened, it was a rattan chair that was first prepared. This means that it has been used for 30 years. And it seems that they prepared tables etc. according to the chair.

Rattan chair and stained glass.jpg

The rattan chair (left) from the coffee shop opened

Stained glass has been watching the restaurant since the days of Chinese restaurants.

You can also purchase "coffee tickets" at Daishoken (11 spells: 4000 yen). It's a very great ticket for me who likes coffee, so I always use it.

c Coffee ticket. jpg▲Great coffee ticket

When you come to Ningyocho, please drop in at "Coffee Daishoken". Why don't you refresh your mind with a cup of coffee? If you're lucky, you may be able to hear the story of this neighborhood and the history of Daishoken.

This time, we talked about not only the story of the shop, but also the story of a celebrity who was regular during the Chinese restaurant era and the story of this neighborhood in the past, and became more and more interested in the history of Ningyocho. Was. And I became more like Ningyocho.

Even so, where do the calm air in the store and this sense of comfort come from? Perhaps it is not only in the location of Ningyocho, but also in the life of Mr. Watanabe's mother and child who has carried the history of a famous Chinese restaurant called "Daishoken". It was this interview that made me feel like that.

The soba shop "Seiya No. 9" also appeared on TV

[May rain George] Nov. 7, 2018 09:00

This time, we will introduce the recommended soba shop, Makotoya No. 9 store in Ningyocho, from many soba shops in the Nihonbashi area. If I can go, lunch is OK in 5 a week. It is a delicious soba restaurant that you can use everyday, never get tired of eating every day.

IMG_2701.JPG

▲The entrance of the shop

Located about a 5-minute walk from Ningyocho Station, this shop is named "No. 9", but here is only one soba shop. (On the recently renewed homepage, "No. 9" was taken and became "Ningyomachi Makotoya". By the way, "Shin" is the name of the owner's father.)

Rather, it is a self-service store that looks like a stand-up soba, and although it is a dressing-only store, it is a system that buys a meal ticket at a ticket vending machine, passes it over the counter, and goes to pick it up when it is completed. Nori, seaweed, seaweed, fried balls, wasabi, etc. are prepared at the pick-up port, and add it yourself.

Mori soba is 500 yen in average (200g), 600 yen in medium (300g), 700 yen in large (400g). The popular gravy soup soba is 680 yen, everything is reasonable.

IMG_2700.JPG

▲Kanuma-style nira soba in Tochigi Prefecture + service sweet potato with heaven (600 yen)

By the way, near the heart, flat noodles with a thickness of about 1 to 1.5 mm are truly beautiful. A variety of shaded coarse ground buckwheat grains are mixed in the overall transparent fabric. The tongue catches the rough feel of coarse ground soba, and at the same time, the scent of soba follows. Draining is perfect, and you can feel firm.

The taste of the soba I was looking for was coarse ground soba that my mother hit at my parents' home when I was a child. I hope you can enjoy that feeling in Tokyo. Moreover, the cost performance is high!

Next, put a small amount of green onions and wasabi on the side and soak them in soup. It is said that soy sauce with less sweetness is used in this season. It is slightly returned and the taste of soy sauce rises, but I think this is the best match in this country side with strong habit. If it was too sweet, it would be fun.
It is said that buckwheat flour is usually made from North America. And in the evening part, the small noodles of 10% domestic soba flour are offered. This is delicious again!

The soba hot water in the pot is cloudy and seems to contain a lot of rutin, and hot. I'll put it in right away if it's gone. There is also a soba inoguchi at the reception, so I'm grateful when you have soba hot water.

If you register as a member, you can receive the tempura service of the day every time. Currently, there are eight types of weekly service products that I am checking.

You will receive an email of "This week's Service" at 7:00 am Monday. Just show the image when you give your meal ticket, and tempura is served. Isn't it a nice service even though it's small!

Service Ten. jpg

There is a reason why Makotoya's soba is delicious. Mr. Fukuda, a shopkeeper from Tochigi Prefecture, actually his original occupation is a salesman in charge of soba flour, a major milling manufacturer. Soba flour is noisy because he is a master who knows the features and properties of soba flour.

By the way, the current lunch coarse soba seems to have reached "Soba flour 7: flour 3" as a percentage to draw out the scent of soba and flatten it.

Another face of this shopkeeper, in fact, is a big fan of Eikichi Yazawa. In the evening section, from 17:00 to 20:00, we also open at the same time as acoustic live.

Naga's photo appeals to the outside of the store‥‥

A good thing about the owner's song singing as a Naga-chan! If you are interested, search for "makotoya soba" on youtube! You can listen to the beautiful voice of the shopkeeper!

Visit to the Japanese Medical Research Institute

[May rain George] October 13, 2018 09:00

We were able to talk to President Toshikatsu Shukuri of "Wakan Pharmaceutical Research Institute Co., Ltd." behind the Meijiza Building in Nihonbashihamacho. The Japanese Medical Research Institute is a health supplement manufacturer based on crude drug products.

IMG_2526.JPG

Chuo-ku has many pharmaceutical-related places, such as the head office of major pharmaceutical manufacturers and the birthplace of Jikei Medical University and Juntendo, but there were also pharmaceutical companies. Let's ask a lot of things right away.

**********************************

May rain George (5): First of all, when did you establish your company (Wakan Pharmaceutical Research Institute)?
President Shukuri (hereinafter referred to as the inn): It was 1982. We will celebrate the 37th year in January next year. In 2012, we moved our office from Higashinihombashi to our current location (Nihonbashihamacho).

5: Please tell me the details of your business.
Inn: Yes, we manufacture and sell approximately 20 types of health-assisted products and cosmetics, mainly crude drug products using medicinal mushrooms called Ganoderma Lucidum.

reishi.jpg

▲Ganoderma lucidum growing on the farm (left) and harvested Ganoderma lucidum (right)

※It seems that the size of the palm is the best.

5: Ganoderma lucidum is that Chinese herbal medicine ...

Inn: That's right. However, although we are conducting joint research with China, the actual raw material is our own farm of about 7,000 tsubo in Tsumagoimura, Gunma Prefecture, where we grow Ganoderma lucidum.
In addition, "Chinese medicine" is a method of mixing chemicals using crude drugs and ingredients from China, and is the name used in Japan. There is also something unique to Japan, such as "black grilling". Herbal medicine is a medicine in which herbal medicine and ingredients are mixed according to individual symptoms, and returns the function of the disordered body to the health body that should be. Because it is a refreshing medicine, there are some side effects. We deal with health supplements using crude drugs, not Chinese herbal medicine itself. It's not a medicine.
Ganoderma lucidum is one of the highest peak crude drugs, but we have studied this Ganoderma lucidum and have accumulated a lot of evidence data.

IMG_2523.JPG

▲Ganoderma lucid made of "black grilled". It seems that there is no tar because it is baked at an oxygen-free high temperature.

5: Oh, what does Ganoderma lucidum work for?

Inn: I can't say "effective" because it's not treated as a medicine (laughs), but it has a positive effect on various physical disorders. The easiest way to understand is to improve blood flow. In the first place, all illnesses appear in places where the blood flow of the capillaries is stagnant. If the blood flows smoothly to the end of the capillaries throughout the body, the symptoms of most diseases will alleviate and improve.

5: Thank you very much. I learned a lot. By the way, you seem to be very young,...

Inn: I'm 36 years old this year. In 2014, the predecessor president resigned as chairman and took over the role of president.

5: By the way, I think the name "Sukuri" is a very rare last name, but what are you from?

Inn: Yes, it's Oita prefecture. It seems to be a rare last name with only about 1,300 people nationwide, but it still seems that Oita is the largest.

5: Finally, please give me a word to everyone who is watching this blog.

Inn: Health is very simple, with three types: blood flow, sleep, and physical strength. At present, there is no more urgent treatment than Western medicine, such as fractures, injuries, organ damage, and distress, but treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes, recovery of physical function after surgery, improvement of patient health quality Western medicine is a weak field. We are developing products that can help you with the so-called "non-illness" stage before being diagnosed with illness, the recovery of health after illness and surgery, and the creation of a body to prevent illness.

We will continue to work on research and product development in line with the challenges faced by many people in recent years, such as cancer and dementia.

5: Thank you very much.

Steak lunch at Ningyocho "She Otake"

[May rain George] September 22, 2018 18:00

Simple is best! There is only one type of lunch. But it's popular. The secret was in the exquisite steak!

The French restaurant "Che Otake", located just a little off Ningyocho Street, may be missed even if you check the location on a map. My eyes just go to the signboard of the yakiniku shop on the first floor, and the handwritten lunch menu affixed to the board at the feet is hard to notice, but it is noble to hand-drawn even to the French national flag.

29292929292929292929292929

Entrance stairs. jpg

If you go right at the back of the red sign, you will find the stairs to the second floor.

29292929292929292929292929

Lunch steak is 200g of Mexican Wakahime beef sirloin. It's clean to be 1,000 yen including tax with salad and rice.

As you climb up the narrow stairs, you will find a space divided by Japanese shop curtain on three sides. The front is a kitchen, the left is a table seat, and the right is counter seat + table seat. There are no seasonings or toothpicks on the counter or table, as well as paper napkins.

29292929292929292929292929

DEDD3003-2E64-40CA-A260-22913290B8FD.jpeg29292929292929292929292929

The chef who organizes lunchtime by himself is clean. If a customer sits in a chair, a piece of meat rides on an iron plate. Two passengers ride two tickets.

The word I say is just a word, "Lice is less."

There are three plates of rice, salad, and steak in front of you. The dishes are unified in white and clean.

29292929292929292929292929

29292929292929292929292929

I'm glad that the salad with homemade delicious French dressing is generous. It's clean to have one type of lettuce or Sunny Lettuce (sometimes in the case of cresses, a big hit!?) 。

29292929292929292929292929

Clison. jpg

The meat is 200g, and the salad is also cleson!

29292929292929292929292929

The steak is simply seasoned with salt and pepper only. It's clean to have nothing to do. All the baking methods are medium rare and clean.

Rice goes on to the salty taste of the steak. The customer's tongue is clean with the rotation of "meat ⇒ leaf ⇒ meal"!

You don't have to stay long after eating. The payment will be made with Hilary and one thousand yen bill. I left the store with a toothpick found on my way home. What a clean lunch (!) What's it?

This filthy and exquisite steak is unforgettable and I want to come here again. Every time I leave the store, only my heart is undeveloped.

★At night, "She Otake" is a full-fledged French restaurant that has been opened for two and a half years, where a chef trained at the Michelin Star store in France will shake their original skills.

Please try to experience the innocence of lunch at this shop once.
