[Second Excursion Series] It was in Kyobashi! Japan's first street payphone

[Hanes] May 26, 2018 14:00

Hello. This is a new correspondent, Hanes.
This time, it is an excursion series that allows you to know the history of the ward outside Chuo-ku, following the previous time.
The second stage is Glover Garden in Nagasaki City.
Here are some of the things related to Chuo-ku that I met unexpectedly.

As soon as possible, what is related to the focus this time?...Here!
The answer is shown in the photo, but it is called "autonomous phone".
Unlike modern telephone boxes, it's stylish and Western style.

IMG_8992.JPG

For a moment, I thought, "Isn't it a scene unique to Nagasaki where the influence of the West remains strong?"
If you look closely,
"We restored the first one in Japan under Kyobashi, Tokyo in 1900."
Isn't it written?

IMG_8993.JPG

When I was worried and looked for the photos at that time, there was something!
A quaint automatic telephone box located in Kyobashi, where there is no skyscraper yet.

Automatic.jpg
(Includes Communications Museum)

At that time, telephones translated directly from the name "Automatic Telephone" used in the United States.
It was named "autonomous phone", but it is the same as a public phone.
1 When the city call charge (15 yen) at the time of a call was reduced to 5 yen two years later, the number of users increased and spread!

By the way, it began to spread in 1902. Shiseido Parlour is open in Chuo-ku.
At that time, the hairdressing fee was 5 yen, the same as the call fee for one call, while the parlor ice cream soda was 25 yen per cup.
You can reconfirm that it was a very expensive drink.

Now, let's go back and look back on the history of public telephones here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Until September 1900, there were public telephones that were only available in the telephone branch offices and post offices at Ueno and Shimbashi stations.
It will be installed on the premises.
An outdoor public telephone booth at the beginning of October 1990 will be installed at the base of Kyobashi.
(For details after that, please see NTT West Japan "Transfer of Public Phones.")
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The fact that Japan's first permanent escalator was installed in the new building of Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi.
I learned from studying the Chuo-ku Tourism Test, but
It was here in Chuo-ku that a public telephone entered the street for the first time.

Although it is a restoration, try to enter the automatic telephone box in commemoration.
If you pull this handle that fits into the box, you will find it

IMG_8995.JPG

The interior was as large as the modern one.
As it is not transparent from top to bottom like modern ones, visibility is somewhat limited, but
I was able to enjoy the mood of a caller from a newly introduced automatic phone.

IMG_8996.JPG

I sent you a series of excursions through two articles with Hiroshima City and Nagasaki City.
There must be a lot of charm and related history of Chuo-ku that can be found outside the city.
It's quite fun to look for historical sites related to Chuo-ku on the go.

[First Excursion Series] Ako Gishi learning from wooden statues and Japanese sweets

[Hanes] May 23, 2018 09:00

Hello. This is a new correspondent, Hanes.
Do you like historical drama?
To be honest, I often shunned that Taiga drama series would be a period drama.
For the first time after studying the Chuo-ku Tourism Certification, I learned that there are three famous historical dramas in the city.
The historical drama is "Chushingura" with the theme of the defeat of Kira's house by Ako Gishi.

■Ruins of Takumi Asanouchi's residence (Akashicho 10/11 area)
It was the Edo-kami residence of the Asano family of Akaho feudal lord.

IMG_9224.JPG

■Horibe Yasubei Takeyuki Monument (1-4 Hatchobori)
A child of Nakayama, retainer of the Mizoguchi family of the Shibata clan, Echigo country.
After his father who became a ronin died, he came out to Edo and made a name for swordsmanship.
It is said that he had a residence in Kyobashi Nagatani-cho (currently Ginza 1-chome).

IMG_9233.JPG

■Shinroku Hazama Peace pagoda (Tsukiji Honganji)
He knew that his father and brother were joining the revenge union, and decided to participate.
On the way to the end of Kira's house and raised to Takanawa Sengakuji Temple.
There is a legend that Kaneko was tied to a carried spear and thrown into the fence of Tsukiji Honganji as his own memorial service.

IMG_9212.JPG

However, I don't know the details of the Akaho incident, but just looking at the monuments and towers did not come out.
I don't feel like "Let's see Chushingura."...
So I decided to look at the Akaho incident from another angle.

■Follow the roots of Takumi Asanouchi Naganori
He was feudal lord, the third generation of the Akaho Domain (now part of Hyogo Prefecture), but going back, it can be seen that it was the sidestream of the Asano Family of the Hiroshima Domain.
So, I took advantage of my business trip to Hiroshima and visited Venus-in, a place related to Ako Gishi.
This temple is one of the five temples in the Hiroshima Domain and is also the Bodaiji Temple of Myo Kotobuki-in, the birthplace of Terumoto Mori.

DSC_2162.JPG

It is also famous for its 47 wooden statues of Ako Gishi, which miraculously minimized damage.
It was said that Ako Gishi-do, which was originally enshrined, collapsed in the blast of the atomic bomb and was once moved to this temple that was once destroyed by the atomic bomb.
On the right side toward the main ancestor is Isa Yamada's work, "The Gishi from main gate."

DSC_2150.JPG

On the left side, there is Hikoshi Iwata's "The Gishi who is defeated from the back gate" lined up.
Both are made of Kusu made in the Meiji period.

DSC_2155.JPG

It is enshrined in the main gate and the back gates, and what kind of people are responsible for.
You can see at a glance whether you've come to the chassis.
Of course, check Yasubee Horibe (center of the front row) and Shinroku Hazama (left end of the back row) related to Chuo-ku!
I was once again surprised at the youth of Shinroku Hazama.

DSC_2154.JPG

■How about Japanese sweets related to Takumi Asanouchi and Gishi Ako?
Even if you are not so interested in Ako Gishi, there are many people who like Japanese sweets?
I would like to recommend Shinsho-do in Minato-ku, next to you.

IMG_9195.JPG

Before the relocation due to the road expansion work, the site of this shop was the residence of Ukyota Tamura.
It was also the land of the end of Takumi Asanouchi, who was hungry in the garden.

IMG_9194.JPG

The signboard product of this shop is "in the middle of a stomach" devised based on the event!
During this period, when it was not sold at all, it became a hot topic in the securities industry as an apology.
Now it seems that more than 200 pieces can be sold a day.
I have gradually gained knowledge about Kira's house defeat and Ako Gishi.
I was attracted to the naming and bought it.

DSC_1506.JPG

This overflowing bean paste, reminiscent of a stomach scene, is strangely real.
At the same time, Takumi Asanouchi has become more eager to know how he had to be cut off.
And at a later date, I bought "Gishi Yokan" with a package with different designs for the number of Yoshiko Ako.
Of course, we chose two people related to Chuo-ku.

IMG_9199.JPG

On the side of the package, not only the arrangement at the time of entry, but also explanations of family crests, etc. are provided.
The background of the Akaho incident has become more and more concerned.

IMG_9200.JPG

Even so, if you have a design for all the lawyers, you will want to collect it.
I once separated from the historic sites of Chuo-ku, but when I look at Ako Gishi from another angle, I can see it.
I think that even those who are not good at historical drama will be interested.
Of course, even those who already like "Chushingura" will be able to enjoy it together.
I took this opportunity to study about this incident and to visit the historic site of Chuo-ku again.

I'm worried! The Seven Wonders of Hatchobori

[Hanes] May 21, 2018 14:00

Hello. This is a new correspondent, Hanes.
Up to now, we have featured Hatchobori's recommended shops such as Cawaii Bread & Coffee and ROAR COFFEE HOUSE & ROASTERY in two articles.
Hatchobori is conveniently located near Tokyo Station, but did you know that there are seven wonders in such a place?

The origin of this Seven Wonders dates back to the Edo period, when there was a powerful and concentric mansion, and is one of the things that vividly convey their humanity and life.
This time, I would like to introduce the Seven Wonders along with modern stories.

■There is no grave because there is a temple
In the early Edo period, it was called "Hatchobori Temple Town" outside the samurai area of Hatchobori.

There were many temples, but it was located in Okazaki-cho, Nishi Hatchobori at the time following the great fire of the Meiryaku era.

The only temple left Gyoenji, and other temples moved away from the center of Edo.
Gyoenji mainly did missionary work at the end of Honganji, and did not have a tomb.
He seems to have come to be said like this.

Thumbnail image of DSC_2081.JPG

It was a story hundreds of years ago, so I thought that the only temple had disappeared now, but Tamaenji (Jodo Shinshu) still exists.
Since it was relocated after the Meiji Restoration, it was not in its original place, but I was impressed by the fact that it remained in the present day.

IMG_9230.JPG

■There is no wife and no lord
A thin-paid power and concentric lived by renting a part of the land he was given.
The concentric lends to merchants such as liquor stores and rice shops, while the power lends to Confucian scholars, painters, and doctors.
Although it was a samurai area, it was treated as a town area.
Because they were trusted and intimacy, they were
People in the town called "husband" instead of "dono" which is the word of "wife".
This is also depicted on the panel under construction currently seen at Kuyasu Bridge.

DSC_2082.JPG

■The neck is connected with gold
Power and concentric were often driven by the people of the town.
It was said that the neck was connected by bribery

■The entrance of rice
At the time of the arrest of Tadaya Maruhashi, the rice was inconcentrated with him and seriously injured.
The magistrate, who knew it, said that he would give him hope because he would give him a reward.
He couldn't honestly say his desire to be empowered, and said he wanted to set up the entrance.
For he was only allowed to set up an entrance, not to be empowered later.
It is based on an episode that I was ashamed and set up the entrance on the back instead of the front.

■ladies' bath's sword
The people of Hatchobori who are always taking care of their strength and concentric.
For those who like morning baths as well as Edokko, the women's baths with no guests were opened in the morning.
I thought I would take a leisurely bath before commuting to work.
They came with their swords, so they had a sword hook in ladies' bath only in the morning.

Thumbnail image of IMG_9201.JPG

For me, I didn't think there was a public bath in central Tokyo today.
I still remember the shock of finding Irifune hot water by accident.
When I looked into it, there are currently nine public baths in Chuo Ward.
Founded in 1863, Kinharuyu is one of the three public baths that have continued since the Edo period.

Thumbnail image of IMG_9223.JPG

And at "community contact public bath" held twice a month (2nd and 4th Friday)
Residents and workers in the city can take a bath for 100 yen, usually for 460 yen for adults.
(However, it is free for those who bring a certificate of respect for the elderly and elementary school students and younger.)
Depending on the season, you can also enjoy shobuyu and yuzuyu.
On the day of the public bath on October 10, there are also public baths where lavender baths appear.
Why don't you relax in a bath with a sense of openness sometimes?
Specifically, please see central bath association official site (http://www.268chuou.com/).

■There is no guardian of children and travelers because there is Jizo Bridge
It can be interpreted that Jizo was moved somewhere from the side of the bridge, and only the bridge remained.
The park named Jizobashi remains now...
Maybe the day when you can find Jizo at that time!

■There is a ghost in the demon's house
There is a high wooden fence in the powerful mansion between Kayabacho 1-2 chome.
After a little further, it seemed to be a terrible dark road.
According to the Kaei era diary abstract, it is called a ghost Yokocho, and a ghost with a white neck appeared every night and pulled the sleeves of passers-by.
So, was the place around the powerhouse really a spiritual spot?
It is said that the true identity of the ghosts concerned was women working in the night world at that time.

Well, I have introduced you to the Seven Wonders so far.
As a matter of fact, there are more than seven of them.
It is reported that there were other "households without a sentence" and "Japanese lantern Kake Yokocho".

From such a story at that time, a glimpse of Chuo-ku, where power and concentric lived.
You can learn about the remnants of Edo that live in modern times.
When walking around Hatchobori, it's fun to look for such remnants.

It's perfect for Instagram! ROAR COFFEE groaning both power and concentric

[Hanes] May 16, 2018 14:00

Hello. This is a new correspondent, Hanes.
Do you have any favorite cafes or favorite cafes?

Many coffee shops and coffee shops nationwide are competing with each other.
A coffee stand that has been talked about for several years, saying, "It's Instagrammable."
When I was in Hatchobori, I was in my office....
I don't know that kind of information, but I was worried and stopped by on my way home from work.
ROAR COFFEE HOUSE & ROASTERY (Lower Coffee House & Lottery)

DSC_1987.JPG

As you can see, it's a small store, but it's a small store.
It has a stylish atmosphere reminiscent of an overseas coffee stand.
I forget to stay in Chuo-ku for a moment.

However, once you go backward, you can feel the gaze from somewhere....
I was worried and looked around the area.
There were stuffed tigers and lions near the ceiling and on the shelves!

Dolls.jpg

The reason why there are stuffed animals that can't be imagined from the appearance is that there are stuffed animals.
The name of the store means that fierce animal, such as a Lion, barking "Ghao"
That's because it's ROAR.
In addition, fierce animal was designed inside the store where you could hear barking.
There are chic and cool takeout cups lined up.

DSC_1988.JPG

While being distracted by small items that want to take pictures unintentionally, go to the counter for ordering.
ROAR is popular among overseas people, but it is also supported by people working and living nearby.
The response of a homey clerk who can be relieved somewhere is impressive.

DSC_2006.JPG

What I ordered was a cafe latte with the rainbow latte art you wanted.
Pink Tiger, an adult croissant dessert using Kilsh sake

DSC_1996.JPG

I was surprised to hear it. How free this elaborate latte art is!
In other words, if you pay the coffee fee, you will receive a latte art service to the applicant.
I have no choice but to ask for this.

DSC_1985.JPG

If you want to make the background white latte art like me,
Espresso
(Fruity sweetness and flower-like scent / flavor of red wine and berry)
ROAR Wolf Blend
(Smooth body and three-dimensional mouthfeel / flavor of nuts and chocolate)
Select one of them.

DSC_2002.JPG

These espresso (double shots) can be obtained separately.
You can also enjoy changes in taste, etc. by adding only the amount you like at your preferred timing.
Therefore, not only those who want to take Instagram photos, but also those who want to take Instagrammable photos.
Those who like pure coffee should be satisfied.

The pink tiger has a cute pink heart on the surface.
It was a soft croissant sweet that was unlikely to be before, and it seemed just good as a snack.

DSC_1998.JPG

In addition to latte art, this shop also includes Extreme Milk Shakes.
We have a lot of menus that look great on Instagram.
During the Edo period, the power and concentric under the town magistrate who lived in Hatchobori were also surprised at their shyness.
You will groan involuntarily by its deliciousness

Thumbnail image of DSC_2081.JPG

From the idea of creating a shop where you can enjoy delicious coffee at reasonable prices.
This shop where you can enjoy coffee that is roasted in-house at a reasonable price.
It is open only on weekdays, but it is recommended because you can enjoy it at any time.

■ROAR COFFEE HOUSE & ROASTERY

Enjoy an elegant moment along the Kamejima River @Cawaii Bread & Coffee

[Hanes] May 9, 2018 09:00

Hello. This is a new correspondent, Hanes.
When I walked around Hatchobori at the "Tokyo Art Antique" held the other day, I walked around Hatchobori.
I was worried about the shop where I got information by accident at the landing of a certain antique shop, so I went there immediately!

The shop is Cawaii Bread & Coffee located along the Kamejima River.
Since its opening in July 2014, it has been popular with nearby workers and residents.
It's a community-based bread and coffee shop.

DSC_1922.JPG

This time, Hatchobori's Creative Editors Unit, which operates this shop, is a creative editor's unit.
We spoke with Mr. Nakayama of Kawaii Factory Co., Ltd.

■Start of opening
Mr. Nakayama and his main job are editing and writing based in Hatchobori....
One day, I realized that there was no bakery near my office that I could go to every day.
"There must be people around me who have the same feeling!"
He seems to have decided to produce a bakery
But it's not just a bakery that's familiar to everyone in the area!

■Aiming for safe and secure bread
A number of delicious breads that jump into your eyes when you enter the store....
I can't see it in my eyes, but in fact there is a commitment.
That is to provide 100% domestic wheat bread using natural yeast (including homemade yeast).

DSC_1933.JPG

All breads are additive-free, handmade in the store.
In the store, you can see the bread making through the glass.
It seems that topping vegetables are also organic as much as possible.

I know in advance how long the bread is baked.
It's good to go to the shop when the bread you care about is baked.

DSC_1920.JPG

■Have an elegant moment in the reborn building
In fact, this building has been used as a small printing shop or garage.
After renovation by Ryue Nishizawa Architect & Design Office, it was reborn as this shop.

We can take out bread and coffee, so many people take it home.
This time, I would like to recommend the eat-in space in the store.
There are 6 seats in the store where the wallpaper of Arabesk, which is the original of this shop, is impressive.

DSC_1931.JPG

There are 5 seats on the outdoor terrace where you can enjoy the view of Kameshima Bridge and Kamejima River.

DSC_1927.JPG

In particular, the terrace seats are located along the river, making it a quiet, relatively cool, and cozy space.
It seems to be one of the best spots in Hatchobori known to those who know it.
Because of this, I also had "Spring Elbe" on the terrace seat.

DSC_1924.JPG

"Elbe" means "vegetable" in Italian and means "vegetable".
It is a seasonal focaccia that is topped with seasonal vegetables.
Snap peas marinated with salt and olive oil are vivid.
It had a taste that made you feel spring
Also, it is nice that the dough uses nutritious whole grain flour.

People from overseas come every day (residents, working, sightseeing)
If there is a shop near your workplace that combines such a wonderful location and bread that you can eat with peace of mind, you can do it.
I want to go there every day.

The cute pink building that can be seen from Kameshima Bridge is a landmark.
When you come near you, look at the flowers blooming in and around the river.
Why don't you forget the time and relax?

Do you need an airplane? Excursions in Greece and Italy

[Hanes] May 6, 2018 18:00

Hello. This is a new correspondent, Hanes.
It seemed long and short GW...How did you spend your time?

I was a major in world history during the exam, and I wanted to visit once for a long time.
To a Greek city where ancient history and culture live.Airplane

Greece.jpg

...I didn't go there.
I visited a place in Chuo-ku where you can feel Greece.
This time, in addition to Greece, we will focus on spots where the influence of Italy can be seen.
I invite you to take a temporary trip to Greece and Italy.

[Nihonbashi / Kyobashi area]
■Mitsui Main Building
The building was completed in 1929 as the former Mitsui Main Building was damaged by the Great Kanto Earthquake.
The colint order found on the outer wall is a masterpiece, whether from a distance or just below.
I never thought, "Isn't you come to Greece?"

DSC_1679.JPG

■Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Store
This is an Italian Renaissance-style building designated as a national important cultural property.
I tend to be distracted by the famous lion statue that welcomes customers at the front entrance.
In fact, there is a statue of Hermes, a commercial god that appears in the Greek (Rome) mythology.

IMG_7500.JPG

■Hario Glass Building (HARIO Building)
The head office building and showroom of a heat-resistant glass tableware company, which is also the registered Tangible Cultural Property of the country.
It was originally used as the Kawasaki Savings Bank Tomizawacho Branch at the beginning of its construction.
There are still Colint-style large orders that were popular in bank construction in the early Showa era.

DSC_2064.JPG

■Meijiya Kyobashi Building
It is a Renaissance-style office building that is connected to the subway station.
If you walk around the city in this way, you will also study the Chuo-ku Tourism Certification.

IMG_7534.JPG

[Ginza Area]
■Ginza Station
If you have used Ginza Station, you may know.
Near the ticket gate here, there are several Mercury statues created by Kio Kasagi!
It seems that it has become a symbol of the subway since it was installed in 1951.

Mercury. jpg

■THE APOLLO (Tokyu Plaza Ginza 11F)
It has become a hot topic since the first landing in Japan in the spring of 2016.
Modern Greek restaurant from Sydney, Australia
I'm afraid I haven't tasted the Greek food yet.
A senior correspondent is reporting.
Mr. Ginzo: Greek food THE APOLLO in Tokyu Plaza, Ginza

DSC_2079.JPG

[Tsukiji / Akashicho area]
■Catholic Tsukiji Church
In 1878, the Gothic-style cathedral built in the Tsukiji Foreign Settlement was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake....
Therefore, in 1927, he modeled the St. Magdalena Cathedral in Paris.
The Greek temple Parthenon-style church was rebuilt
It seems that this style was based on the hope of Bishop Ray, Tokyo at the time.

ice_2018-04-01-13-18-43-534.jpg

It looks like a stone, and in fact this wooden church
Because the wall is painted mortar, it may have a stone atmosphere.
What you can see in front is a Doria-style order.
During the war, the Akashicho area was fortunate to escape air raids and has been able to convey its appearance to the present.

■Gas lamps
I stand near Rehaport Akashi and Akashi Kindergarten.
According to the information board, it is made of cast iron and takes a Corinth style.
Although the lamp part of the pillar has been restored, it seems that it has become a remnant of Chuo Ward Daini Junior High School, which was previously located in this place.
This junior high school was consolidated together with Daiichi Junior High School in 1984, and now exists in Ginza as Chuo-ku Ginza Junior High School.

Gas lamps jpg

[Harumi area]
■Harumi Island Triton Square
Triton is the god of the sea that appears in Greek mythology.
On the premises of the facility, there is a triton statue, a triton mosaic picture, and a triton mosaic.

o1288096614130243827.jpg

There is one of the largest ceiling paintings in Japan (@ 2nd floor patio "Mythical Square") designed by Italian fresco painters.
It was too large to fit all of the large ceiling paintings.

o0720096014129577514.jpg thumbnail image

[Limited Time]
■FANCL Ginza Square 10F Royal Room
For a limited time from May 4th (Fri) to 11th (Fri), the theme was "Koi Rose, Love Banana, Love Marriage".
A garden (free admission / free) to enjoy in flower language has opened.
The process of love is expressed by flowers and their flower language.
Near the entrance, Orr Laya Grandiflora's "Slight Thoughts" and Linalia's "Aware of this Love".
Near the exit, there are Ficas Unberta's "married love" and wild strawberry "happy home".
The main one is roses, but if you look carefully, you will find plants related to Greece.

Garden. jpg

The first one is the mertle in Greece, which has the flower language of "a symbol of love and immortality."
Since it appears many times in Greek mythology, it is a plant that is inseparable from Greece!

The second is the olives that you would imagine when you say Greece.
Flower language is "peace and wisdom."
Since the birth of the Ancient Olympics, the winners of the competition have been given olive crowns.
The idea of "peace" contained in olives is the same.
It has been handed down to the modern Olympics with the aim of "world peace."

By the way, this is the end of the Greek and Italian excursion in Chuo-ku, how was it?
Chuo-ku, which has been influenced by Tsukiji and other countries....
It's just a part of that.
When you come to play, be sure to look for an overseas landscape.
