Suddenly, what do you recall when you hear the Suwa area of Nagano Prefecture? Fireworks of Lake Suwa, Lake Suwa, God Crossing, pillar of Suwa Taisha Shrine ...
You may not have enough time in the picture, but don't forget the "eel".
The Tenryugawa, which originates from Lake Suwa, is connected to Hamamatsu. Eel fry born in Hamamatsu climbed the Tenryugawa River and grew up in Lake Suwa, so eel catch has been very large since ancient times, and eel specialty stores are still lined up in the surrounding area. . In addition, this area is a mixture of steamed "Kanto-style" and ground-yaki "Kansai-style" shops, so you can enjoy both tastes.
The other day, the annual eel festival (?) That's why I went to the Suwa area of Nagano Prefecture.
(Lake Suwa, which is 16 km per lap, has a wonderful running route, making it ideal for running. There's no shortage of hot springs after running. You can enjoy the package of "Eat, run, and hot spring". Shinshu is full of delicious food and is in trouble!) 。
(The scenery of Lake Suwa showing various faces in one lap. On a clear day, you can also enjoy the beautiful view of Mount Fuji.
By the way, this time, I visited the eel "Kobayashi" (Suwa City). It is said that "natural eel has come in", so order without hesitation. The eel season is not summer, but from autumn to early spring is spreading. However, it is said that the availability of natural eels will be nearing the end in December.
At this shop, natural eels are said to be from Tokyo Bay in addition to Hamamatsu, etc., so I didn't think I could hear the story of eels in front of Edo here.
(The largest eel in my history. And it was excellent. It is a pity that the size is difficult to convey in the photo.)
This eel "Kobayashi" is also a member of the "Eel 100 Selections".
(The newsletter of the "Eel 100 Selection Party" received at the store. There are plenty of essays by Sawako Asakawa and talks about eel resource conservation. )
The "Eel 100 Selection Meeting" is issued by Nihonbashi Muromachi, Chuo-ku (finally appeared in Chuo-ku). Even though it covers shops nationwide, if you look at members in Chuo-ku, you can see them.

In the newsletter of the eel 100 selection society, a page on the protection of eel resources is also divided.
"Five years ago, 3-4 kilograms of shirasu were caught in the Ono River in Oita Prefecture." (It means that about 20,000 animals were caught overnight.) "Now, 100 to 1,000 animals are caught. It's not a level that this is decreasing anymore. It's a thousandth of the past."
I have been raising eels several times before. It may not be well known, but it is a large eater who has the ferociousness to attack other fish and eats shrimp, small fish, earthworm, etc. And I think it's a tough fish for changes in water quality and environmental conditions.
In the past, the decrease in the number of eels was caused by the deterioration of water quality, such as pollution, but the issue has changed to the depletion of resources itself.
In order to keep this food culture alive, I want to do something before it's too late.
