The flower garden of about 3,000 m2 in Hamarikyu Onshi Garden has reached the season of the late summer tradition "Kibana Cosmos" and is dyed yellow to orange. Cosmos is a general term for the annual grass of the genus Cosmos native to Mexico, and in a narrow sense it refers to the representative variety, "Oharshagiku". His Japanese name was 'Akizakura.' The leaves are finely cut into feathers, almost filamented, flowers (headed flowers) consist of ligulate flower and cylindrical flowers, ligulate flower is white to light red to dark red, and cylindrical flowers are yellow, originally short days. Kibanacosmos is a different species, the leaves are sparsely bleaching, the ligulate flower is yellow or orange, the original short-day nature is thin, the summer blooming is quite strong, and it blooms well even in midsummer. Kibana Cosmos had only a yellow color, but Masayuki Hashimoto cultivated a red variety sunset for the first time, and then varieties were born one after another, and the color became richer. The semi-double (half double-flowered) variety with many valves has a sense of volume. This year, two early blooming varieties of orange-red "Diaboro" and clear yellow "Dwarf Yellow" are planted. Many insects, such as Aosji Ageha and bees, visit in search of nectar.
