A space where you can feel the former outer moat

Heading toward the Imperial Hotel in front of Ginza Miyuki Dori Yasuaki Elementary School, there is an elevated expressway, followed by a JR elevated train. A narrow and long space of about 2.3m wide and about 300m long between these two elevated tracks (on the left side) extends far to the vicinity of Shinkobashi intersection. The left side of the photo is the Tokyo Kosoku Doro, and the right side is the elevated JR Tokaido Shinkansen. (However, because it is a dedicated area of the expressway company, only those involved can pass.) This is the site of the former outer moat, and it has fallen considerably, so the bottom of outer moat is also imaged. Tokyo Kosoku Doro Co., Ltd. has filled the outer moat area since 1953 to build an elongated building and an expressway over it. On the other hand, JR built a brick viaduct in this area by 1914 and expanded it, and passed the Tokaido Shinkansen on the elevated closest to the expressway (in preparation for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics). Was. As a result, the expressway and the JR Shinkansen will run side by side at a close distance, and as shown in the photo, there is a narrow and long space between them.
