"The Silver Bonbonniere Exhibition of the Imperial Family" has started - Shoko Miyamoto
Do you know the Bonbonniere?
Bonbonniere is a bonbonfire in French. In France and Italy, there are customs to distribute sweets for the birth of children, weddings, silver weddings, etc., and it is said that it was adopted by the Japanese Imperial Family in the Meiji era.
In this exhibition, 40 Bonbonniere pieces that were actually distributed at the Imperial Family's celebration from the Meiji era to the Heisei era are exhibited.
At the venue, the first thing that attracts attention is the Bonbonniere of "Tsurume-shaped" given at the silver wedding ceremony in Emperor Meiji, with Iwagami cranes and turtles attached on the lid, and sweets from the rock with two turtles. It is a delicate and luxurious confectionery, as the subtitle of the exhibition says " palm-sized metalwork art". In addition, there is a sigh for the superb technique and stylish playful design, such as Torigogata, Inuharikogata, Denden Taikogata, Palanquingata, dance with instrumental accompaniment Taiheirakukabutogata, Goshoshagata, etc.
Needless to say, the advanced skills of Japanese sword craftsmen surprised guests from overseas and helped deepen their understanding of Japanese culture, but at the same time, they lost their jobs due to the abolition of sword orders after the Meiji Restoration It also conveys the compassion of the sword craftsmen and the desire of the imperial family to maintain, inherit, and inform them overseas. In the Heisei era after the war, the number of jujujuju-shaped increases also makes you feel the flow of the times.
The venue, Shoko Miyamoto, was founded in 1880 and is the first silver product specialty store in Japan and is a long-established store for Imperial Household Agency. We heard that four of the exhibited items were Shoko Miyamoto's orders.
Shoko Miyamoto has begun selling orders for its original Bonbonniere with "Azusa" and "rugosa rose" with the motif of "Oin" of Their Majesties. For inquiries, please contact 03-3538-3513
