A little worrisome building @ antique street

The Tokyo Art Antique, which was held for the first time in three years last year, was held again this year at Antique Street from Thursday, April 27 to April 29 (Sat). It is an art shop / gallery on "Antique Street", which usually gets distracted to enter inside, but during the period there were various events, so I was able to drop in casually and touch art and antiques. I'm looking forward to next year.

There are various theories that Higashinaka-dori in Nihonbashi and Kyobashi came to be called "Antique Street", and "Antique Street Map (published by Toda Construction Co., Ltd.). One of them is introduced in the website.

・・・ Long-established husbands from the Meiji, Taisho eras, and early Showa eras get off the car around Tsubo Nakai in Nihonbashi, and casually buy expensive antiques on the way to visit the restaurant with geishas, and finally return to the car waiting in front of Kyobashi's "Kyuzan Ryusen-do". Those who were walking in such a smart city called this street "antique street" as nicknames. ・・・

The building of Tsubo Nakai, the starting point of "Antiku Street", which is derived from the above, and the end point "Kyuzan Ryusen-do", were designed by Kenzo Higashihata.

Completed in 1973. It features a so-called manthard roof with a gentle slope at the upper part of the roof and a steep slope at the lower part. The roof has a large presence, giving a solid impression overall. The design of the window varies from floor to floor, and you can feel the movement. In addition, the balcony on the second floor is casual and fashionable.

In one corner of Antique Street, there is also the Hokuyacho Building (3-6-9 Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), which houses a gallery Kochukyo, an independent store as a modern and contemporary section of Tsubo Nakai. Completed in 1987. Designed by Yutaka Hirota, who was also the owner. Although it is a small tenant building built on a corner lot, you can see the good commitment of goods in various places, such as the processing of concrete release surfaces and opening corners, and the design of the opening.

Completed in 1960. Nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property (building). Three sides of the front of the outer wall are surrounded by walls, creating depth and space. Yura stone (andesite mined at Mt. Yura in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture), which is said to be famous stones on the north and east sides facing the street, is arranged like a frame, and the wall is expected to have a valve pattern (insect, antiseptic, antiseptic, and rust prevention effect). It is finished with black plaster containing iron oxide). It is said that Kenzo Higashihata himself designed it as a picture frame of antique art (Published in 1960, Vol. 27 and No. 12 of International Architecture).
