Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine Grand Festival-held for the first time in five years-
The origin of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine

Tsukuda Island was originally a tidal flat formed at the mouth of the Sumida River. The fishermen who reclaimed this land and built the island were fishermen from Tsukuda-mura, Nishinari-gun, Settsu-kuni (now Tsukuda, Nishiyodogawa-ku, Osaka-shi) who emigrated to this area. When Ieyasu Tokugawa visited Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine (currently Tamino Shrine in Tsukuda, Nishiyodogawa-ku) in Settsu when he visited Ieyasu Tokugawa, a fisherman from Tsukudamura took out a ferry boat and carried Ieyasu's party. In 1590, he decided to return to Kanto in accordance with Ieyasu Tokugawa, and decided to return to the Kanto area. Tsukuda Island's "Tsukuda" is named after the names of their hometowns such as fishermen.
Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine on Tsukuda Island was founded in 1646 at a shrine dedicated to the spirit of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine in Settsu, the shrine of fishermen and other hometowns, along with the spirit of Princess Nagahashi (Empress Jingu) and Tosho (the spirit of Ieyasu Tokugawa).
The flat height of the torii gate is rare ceramic.
Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine Grand Festival and Obori
In August 2023, the festival of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine was held for the first time in five years. The last festival was held in 2018. The Grand Festival is held every three years, so the next Grand Festival would normally have been held in 2021. However, due to the influence of COVID-19, we had to hold two postponements, and this time it was finally held for the first time in five years. I think that many people, as well as the locals, have been waiting for the festival to resume. Speaking of the festival of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine, it is known for having a magnificent large banner. I wanted to see this big banner up close, and I wasn't blessed with that opportunity, but the timing has finally come. It was so hot that it was hesitant to go out due to the intense heat of the day, but if you miss this time, it will be three years later. I didn't want to regret missing it, so I decided to carry a camera and visit Tsukuda. The big banner you are looking for will be a common word, but anyway it's fine. I felt a history on the wooden surface of the pillar, which has been used for many years. The banner seen from the gunshot on the opposite bank seemed to inform a special day and looked proud.
Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine appears in the novel of the period
Tsukuda Island in the novel of the era is not often the stage, probably due to the special circumstances of a fisherman's island, and rather, it is a presence that looks beyond the sea. Therefore, it is rare for Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine to appear, but in the chapter of "Zato Tokunoichi" in the Onihei Crime Book (22) (written by Shotaro Ikenami, Bunshun Bunko), there is a scene where you can see the grand Torii gate of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine from the gunshot on the opposite bank.
