Have fun at home this year!
"Yanagi"—a symbol of Ginza spreading across the country

Hello. The active activity for a while is Hanes on vacation.
Since 2006, the Ginza Yanagi Festival has been held on Nishi-Ginza Street on May 5 every year, but safety is now the first priority for STAY HOME Week!
So, instead of saying it, I have summarized the willows of Ginza that I have taken so far in one article.
We hope that this GW willow and spirit of Ginza willow and spirit to everyone who spends at home.♪

Start from Ginza! Willows of Ginza that go around in Chuo-ku

The first thing I would like to introduce is, of course, the willow of Ginza in Ginza (* with signboards and information boards)!
Even if you say Ginza, Ginza willows of Ginza are planted everywhere in Ginza.
Ginza's willow is now completely familiar, but when the Ginza brick street was completed, pine, maple, cherry blossoms, etc. were planted as street trees.
However, since they died immediately, they planted willows instead and took root.
Based on this background, the willow of the street tree, which is a symbol of Ginza, was born.

Since then, willows have disappeared due to road expansion and large fires, but thanks to the efforts of the local people, we can still enjoy the refreshing willow that flutters in the wind even in 2020.
Such a monument of willow in Ginza is installed at Ginza 8-chome, and the monument contains the lyrics and music of "Ginza willow song" (lyrics: Yaju Saijo, composition: Shinpei Nakayama).

And the willow that is planted beside it and aims for the heavens as dignified as the urban building is Yanagi II of Ginza.
At present, all over Japan, Yanagi no 2, 3 and 4 of the first Ginza are spinning historical stories of intercity exchanges with Ginza in their respective regions.♪
Now, I would like to introduce the willows of Ginza in Ginza at once.
Please enjoy it as you intend to take a virtual walk ^ ^

Yanagi II of Ginza is planted at Yasuaki Elementary School, which has a history of passing through Toson Shimazaki and Tokoku Kitamura.
(It's a thick tree on the left side.)

Next, we went to Kameshima Bridge in Hatchobori, located northeast of Ginza.
Yanagi IV of Ginza is planted near the signboards of Sharaku Toshusai and Tadataka Ino located in Hashizume southwest of the bridge, and near stone monument in Matsuo Basho.

After all, when comparing the second and fourth generations, there is a noticeable difference in the thickness and height of the trunk.
Yanagi III of Ginza, who was not seen with a signboard in Chuo-ku, heard the news that he was hit by a typhoon in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, where Takuboku Ishikawa was born last October.
(Takuboku Ishikawa worked as a proofreader at the Asahi Shimbun in Takiyamamachi, Kyobashi-ku (currently Ginza 6-chome). From such a connection with Chuo-ku, this willow was donated to Morioka City in 2002. )
Then, is Yanagi III of Ginza a rare willow that is hard to see around Chuo-ku?

Let's jump out of Chuo-ku and go to see willows in Ginza nationwide!

First of all, from the nearby area to Chiyoda-ku next door.
When you walk around the Imperial Palace, you suddenly notice that there is a willow in Ginza nearby.
According to the information board, it is said that it is the third generation of Ginza's willow that disappeared from Ginza Street in 1968!

Next, go to Higashine City, Yamagata Prefecture, a friendship city of Chuo-ku!
In 1989, a cherry Wakagi was donated by Higashine City to Chuo-ku, which was promoting greening, and as a thank you, the willow of Ginza was donated to Higashine City.
The photo below compares the willows of Ginza planted in Higashine City in winter and summer.

In addition, Yanagi II of Ginza is planted in Sunpu Castle Park in Shizuoka Prefecture.
(For details on information boards, etc., see [Excursion Series 4th] The edges of Ginza's Yanagi II have.)
The reason for this is that the current Ginza roots are located in Sunpu, Shizuoka.

On the stone monument of "Sunpu Ginza departure place", it is engraved that "Ginza in Sunpu in 1612 (1612) is the roots of today's Tokyo Ginza, which was moved to Edo, are in Shizuoka." You can follow the transition of Ginza.

As mentioned above, I introduced only a few willows that I have seen in the past, but at this time I think that you can enjoy the willows of Ginza with lush leaves throughout Japan.
It is still a small willow, but at my parents' house, the willow in Ginza, which I had at the Ginza willow Festival last year, is growing steadily.♫
I hope everyone can enjoy the willows of Ginza in Ginza, which has become a pedestrian paradise next year.
