Let's have fun at home this year!
"Yanagi"—a symbol of Ginza spreading all over the country

Hello. The active activity for a while is Hanes (Hanes) on holidays.
Since 2006, the "Ginza willow Festival" has been held on Nishi Ginza Street every May 5th, but now safety first during STAY HOME Week!
So, as a substitute, I summarized the willows of Ginza that I have taken so far in one article.
We hope that this GW will be able to deliver even a little spirit of Ginza's willow and energy to everyone who spends at home.♪

Start from Ginza! The willows of Ginza touring in Chuo-ku

The first thing to introduce is, of course, willows in Ginza in Ginza (* with signboards and information boards)!
Even if you say Ginza in a nutshell, Ginza willows are planted everywhere in Ginza.
Ginza willows are now completely familiar, but at the time of the completion of Ginza Brick Street, pine, maple, cherry blossoms, etc. were planted as street trees.
However, since they died soon, they planted willows instead and took root.
Under such circumstances, a willow of the street tree, which is a symbol of Ginza, was born.

Since then, willows have disappeared due to road expansion and large fires, but thanks to the efforts of the local people, we can still enjoy the refreshing willow that flutters in the wind even now in 2020.
Such a willow monument in Ginza is installed at Ginza 8-chome, and the monument is engraved with the lyrics and music of "Ginza willow Song" (lyrics: 80 Saijo, composed by Shinpei Nakayama).

And the willow planted beside it and aim for the heavens as dignified as the urban building is Yanagi Nisei in Ginza.
Currently, throughout Japan, Yanagi No. 2, 3, and 4 of the first Ginza are spinning historical stories of intercity exchanges with Ginza in their respective places.♪
From now on, I would like to introduce the willows of Ginza in Ginza at once.
Please enjoy it with the intention of taking a virtual walk ^^

Yanagi Nisei from Ginza is planted at the historic Yasuaki Elementary School, which also passed through Toson Shimazaki and Kitamura Toya.
It's a thick tree on the left side.

Next, go to Kameshima Bridge in Hatchobori, located in the northeast of Ginza.
Yanagi Shisei of Ginza is planted near the signboards of Sharaku Toshusai and Tadataka Ino in Hashizume, southwest of the bridge, and near stone monument in Matsuo Basho.

After all, when comparing the second and fourth generations, there is a clear difference in the thickness and height of the trunk.
Yanagi Sansei of Ginza did not see it with a signboard in Chuo-ku, but I heard the news that a typhoon was damaged last October in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, where Takuboku Ishikawa was born.
(Takuboku Ishikawa worked as a proofreader at the Asahi Shimbun in Takiyamamachi, Kyobashi-ku (currently Ginza 6-chome). This willow was donated to Morioka City in 2002 due to such a connection with Chuo-ku. )
So, is Yanagi Sansei in Ginza a rare willow that is hard to see around Chuo-ku?

Let's jump out of Chuo-ku and go to see willows in Ginza nationwide!

First of all, from the neighborhood, go to Chiyoda-ku next door.
When you walk around the Imperial Palace, you will notice that there is a willow in Ginza unexpectedly nearby.
According to the information board, it is "the third generation of" willow of Ginza "which disappeared from Ginza Street in 1968"!

Next, go to Higashine City, Yamagata Prefecture, a friendship city of Chuo-ku!
In 1989, a cherry Wakagi was donated by Higashine City to Chuo-ku, which was promoting greening, and a willow in Ginza was donated to Higashine City as a thank you.
The photo below shows a comparison of the willows of Ginza planted in Higashine City in winter and summer.

In addition, Yanagi Nisei from Ginza is planted in Sunpu Castle Park in Shizuoka Prefecture.
(For details on information boards, etc., please see the rim of [Excursion Series 4th] Ginza Yanagi Nisei's edge.)
The reason for this is that the roots of Ginza today are in Sunpu, Shizuoka.

The stone monument of "The Land of Surufu Ginza" is engraved with "Ginza in Sunpu in 1612 (1612) is the roots of today's Tokyo Ginza, which was moved to Edo, in Shizuoka", and Ieyasu Tokugawa is the key person. You can follow the transition of Ginza.

As mentioned above, only some willows that I have visited in the past have been introduced this time, but at this time I think that you can enjoy Ginza willows with lush leaves throughout Japan.
Although it is still a small willow, the willow in Ginza that I had at the Ginza willow Festival last year is growing steadily at my parents' home.♫
I hope everyone can enjoy the willows of Ginza in Ginza, which has become a pedestrian paradise next year.
