- March Saemon Bridge

Remotely navigate the beloved Chuo-ku, rosemary sea.
This time, we will introduce the 12 bridges that will be key to the movie "When the curtain of prayer comes down" series, this time we will introduce the 3rd Saemonbashi.
Saemon Bridge is a bridge that hits the spotlight to decorate the last in the novel "When the curtain of prayer descends", but when it was turned into a movie, it became a disappointing bridge that was replaced by Yanagibashi. I've said many times in this blog.
In this series, we will introduce the bridges that appeared in the movie "When the Prayer curtain descends" and the 12 key bridges every month.
Then...
Saemon Bridge is ...

Saemonbashi is a bridge that spans the Kanda River, located at 2-chome, Nihonbashi Bakurocho, 2-chome, Higashi-Kamida, Chiyoda-ku, and 1-chome Asakusabashi, Taito-ku.
It is the border between the three wards.
Saemon Bridge
[Completion] 1930 (Showa 5)
History and Cultural Characteristics
The name of the bridge is the origin of the area called "Saemongashi" in connection with Captain Sakai Saemon, who had been living here since the Keicho era (1598-). I keep it.
It is an earthquake reconstruction bridge.
[Characteristics of Design and Structure]
It is a steel hinge arch bridge with a simple design.
The main pillar of the stone pasted and the bridge light on it are impressive designs.
The handrail is a simple design.
The color on the side of the bridge girder is blue.
[Relationship with surrounding landscape]
From the bridge, you can see the Kanda River in the valley of the building, but the railing is simple, but the main pillar and the bridge light are impressive.
You can see the bridge from the children's amusement park in Hashizume, but it is not very impressive.
The arch can be seen beautifully from the surface of the water.
The NTT Bridge, which is attached to the upstream side, blocks the view of the bridge.

Izumi Bridge

This is Izumi Bridge, two upstream bridges of Saemon Bridge. It's not Chuo-ku anymore, Chiyoda-ku.
(Between Izumi Bridge and Saemon Bridge, there is "Mikurabashi" where Kiyosubashi Street passes. This is also Chiyoda-ku.
It is said that the name of the bridge was derived from the fact that there was a mansion of Todo Izumimori Takatora in Kitazume of this bridge.
Takatora Todo was a warlord who ran from the Warring States period to the early Edo period. Immediately before Hideyoshi died, he moved from the Toyotomi side to the Tokugawa side, and in the battle of Sekigahara, he participated as the Tokugawa army and achieved martial arts.
(There is "Izumi Bridge" with the same name quite upstream of this Kanda River. This is said to be derived from the spring water of Kifune Shrine. )
The bridge one upstream is Kanda Fureai Bridge, followed by the famous Manseibashi, Shohei Bridge, Hijiribashi, and Ochanomizu Bridge. And "Water Bridge".
Cross this bridge and go ahead and you will find JR Akihabara Station, Showa-dori Exit.

Toyoshima-cho

Near Saemon Bridge, there is an explanation board "Toyoshima-cho" of Kanda, Chiyoda-ku.
Toyoshima-cho
This neighborhood was once called Toyoshima-cho.
Machiya, located on the north side of Yushima 1-chome, 2-chome, and 3-chome (currently around Yushima 1-chome, Bunkyo-ku) in Genroku 16 (1703), was burned down by a fire caused by the earthquake, and the following 17 years, a new place of residence was established in Samurai residence.
At that time, Toyoshima-cho was born.
The origin of the town name Toshima is not clear, but the town magistrate said, "Toshima-gun to which this area belongs already has a place name Toshima-mura, but it may be possible to have a town name Toyoshimacho separately." It is reported that it was named ("Kanda Ward History").
In addition, the map for the Kyoho period (1716-1736) reads "Toshima Cho" and is said to have been called "Toyoshimacho" ("Shinsen Tokyo Famous Zoukai").
During the Edo period, there were also shops selling Bikuni Yokocho and Binan Kazura oil as hair oil, so it was commonly called "Katsura Yokocho". .
In addition, there were various shops here.
In Bunsei 7 (1824), "Edo Shopping Sogo Guide" includes Meichasho (Meichadori) Iseya, Confectionery Tsuruya, Mizuyu Merchant Masuya (Masuya), etc. During the Keio period (1865-1868), "Edo Food Monogatari Sake Wholesale (Edo Tabemono Monogatari) and other sweets are available.
Furthermore, in the Meiji era, there were a ryokan called Toyoshimakan, a Fujii medicinal store in Ryukakusan, and a Suzuki Sugar merchant, which were very busy.

The bridge shown in the red circle at the top right on the map above.
Nihonbashi Bakurocho 2-chome-Higashikamida 2-chome Chiyoda-ku-1-chome Asakusabashi, Taito-ku
As I have already mentioned, there is Mikurahashi on the upstream side as a bridge over the Kanda River, and Asakusabashi, which was introduced last time downstream.
With the departure of the Nihonbashi brand in Chuo-ku, the 12 bridges, which became the key to the movie "When the curtain of prayer falls", leave the Kanda River uphill, which lasted from January to March.
Next is Tokiwa Bridge in April. It spans the Nihonbashi River. It is a bridge at the top of the Nihonbashi River as Chuo-ku.
From April to December, we will go down the Nihonbashi River.
