New Year calmly Sumida River…I meet Bashoo and Hiroshige.

Cold wind. Now the sun sets, and the orange pillars of Shinohashi shine (left photo). The main tower in the center of the bridge is fitted with a relief of Hiroshige. Famous Edo Hundred Views "Ohashi Atake no Evening" 1857 (1857) is a masterpiece of Hiroshige Utagawa.

History of Shinohashi It was built downstream from December 1693 (1693). After more than 20 damage, loss, burnout, etc., it survives at the cost of the town. 1885 (1885) West-style wooden bridge was replaced with a truss iron bridge at the current location in 1911 (1911), and a streetcar passes. It was called a human-help bridge without being burned down by the Great Kanto Earthquake. The current bridge was rebuilt in 1977 (1977).

Hiroshige Utagawa (Ukiyo-e artist) From 1797 (1797) to September 1858 (1858), it was born on the banks of Yaesu in the fire extinguisher mansion, and was inspired by Hokusai, affecting Van Gogh and Monet. Hiroshige's paintings are full of scenes of Edo. I feel the poetry in common with Basho.

During the construction of the first Shinohashi Bridge, Matsuo Basho wrote, "On the bridge over the first snow" and in December 1693, when the bridge was built, there was a phrase "Frost of the bridge that you step on."

Basho spent 15 years here in Enpo (1680) from Nihonbashi-Odawaramachi to Fukagawa, relying on the widely known Buddha statue of Zen sect (staying at Linchuan-ji Temple in Rinzai sect, Fukagawa). Katsugo Sakaino's "100 Basho's Words" evaluates "Basho's 100 Best Words" that "Basho's phrase, the simple words of haiku are pouring into nature and the light of life!"

You can see the image shining in white on the right of the photo. It is "Bashoan Historic Site Observation Garden".

From Shinohashi, take the Sumida River Terrace on Koto-ku side to Kiyosumi Bridge downstream.

Walk down the left bank of Shinohashi. "Okawabata Basho Kusen" is listed on the planting of the well-maintained Sumida River terrace. Basho-an Historic Site Observation Garden, located at the confluence of the Onagi River, which connects Edo and Boso, and Sumida River, is located at the dike hill. Kawakami is Shinohashi and Ryogokubashi…"Is the flower cloud bell Ueno or Asakusa?"…。 The poorest view is Kiyosu Bridge, Sumitagawa Bridge, and Hakozaki Building Street. At 5 o'clock in the evening, the statue was facing Shinohashi and turned to Kiyosubashi Bridge.

Basho lived near Mannenbashi where Fuji and Sumida River could be seen (next to the observation garden). Hiroshige Utagawa depicts a bold composition of turtles and Fuji at the famous Edo Hundred Views "Fukagawa Mannenbashi". Exhibited at Edo Tokyo Museum, Daiuki See Exhibition, Akira Hiroshige.
