The ninth of the year's payment, the joy of Oai chanting
On Sunday of the New Year, a song of joy was echoing in the central hall on the first floor of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store. This is the 35th "Mitsukoshi no Ninth" which will be celebrated this year. It is a performance twice a day at this time of year, and on the day it is so popular that you can not sit until you get a numbered ticket side by side from the morning. Conducted by Atsushi Sakai, piano and four singers, and chorus was Taito Ward Choir, with a total of 220 Oai chantings.
The ceiling of the hall with the atrium to the 5th floor is a stained class, and the towering in the center is a statue of a heavenly woman (Makoro) by a master craftsman Gengen Sato. The singing voice seemed to be heading next year, the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth.
