Oki Tang Karashi Store
● On the downstream side of Ryogokubashi Nishizume, there is a small shop called "Oki Tang Karashi Store".
When you open the glass door and enter the store one step, it is narrow that you can't go further. There is no space to stand on the back, and a glass case approaches in front of you.
This story was talked to two elderly women at the shop and women who seemed to be their daughters. Of course, I also purchased "Nanairo Tang Karashi".
The birthplace of Shichimi pepper!
◀Ogi Tang Karashi store neighborhood (from Chuo-ku street walking map app)
● Yakkenbori-cho in Edo (later Ryogoku, now Higashinihombashi) is said to be the birthplace of Shichimi pepper. There are many doctors and drug wholesalers in this area, and it seems that they went to "doctor town".
In 1625 (1625), a person named Karashiya Tokuemon sold Shichimi pepper using herbal medicine as a hint. Shichimi pepper became popular and at the same time became a gift of the Tokugawa Shogunate, which is why it came to be called "Yagenbori Speaking of Shichimi pepper" in Edo.
At that time, it is expected to have a medicinal effect, and is often sold in front of temples and shrines, and eventually spread throughout Japan along with the spread of Edo's food culture.
● Currently, the chili shop, which has the trademark of "Yagenbori", moved its store to Asakusa in 1943 and has opened two stores.
※Due to trademark rights, copies of "Yagenbori" cannot be used at other stores, including the Oki Tang Karashi store.
And the long-established store that still remains in the area of Yagenbori, the birthplace of Shichimi pepper, is the Oki Tang Karashi Store.
"Nanairo Tang Karashi" of Oki Tang Karashi store
▲Raw materials for seven-colored peppers (left) and chili container in glass case
● At the Oki Tang Karashi store, since its founding, it is said that it is called "Nanairo Tang Karashi" rather than a general Shichimi pepper.
● The taste is based on three types: "small spicy", "medium spicy", and "large spicy", but you can mix it according to your favorite taste. It seems that it is possible to make not only seven colors but also six colors and five colors.
● It is sold from 25 grams of 200 yen (excluding tax) and can be placed in a separate container (can tube, wooden tube, gourd).
▲We also sell raw materials alone.
Perfect as a souvenir!
▲25g chili bags (left) and packaging bags (3)
● This time, I ordered 3 "medium spicy and more chin skin (tangerine skin)". It will be ready on the spot.
It can be said that one of the pleasures is to find a taste that suits you while changing the formulation several times and ordering.
▲Purchased cans for 25g (cans were all 370 yen regardless of design)
● The good scent of chili can penetrate the nose through the paper bag. Compared to commercial products that can be purchased easily at supermarkets, etc., it has an overwhelming fragrance. And the taste is good!
● I think the "Nanairo Tang Karashi" of Oki Tang Karashi store is perfect as a souvenir.
No additives can be preserved compared to confectioneries and side dishes. It is appreciated as a useful item.
In addition, there are many benefits for those who give them, first of all, light. About 25 grams per bag, about 100 grams larger. It's not too bulky, so it's best to distribute it to your office or acquaintances.
"Nanairo Tang Karashi", which is purchased at the birthplace of Shichimi pepper, is truly a gem recommended as a souvenir.
