 2020 Okamezakura is blooming

Okamezakura at Nihonbashi Honmachi Ajisai-dori St. is at its best. Okamezakura is a horticultural variety that is said to have been created by British cherry blossom researcher Collingwood Ingram by crossing Mamezakura and Kanhizakura. The petals are small similar to Mamezakura, and the flower color is dark pink, especially in the dark red color, and bloom in a modest down modest manner and has a taste. In the old days, women with a plump body represent fertility and virtue and were regarded as the condition of so-called "beautiful", so it seems to be influential to think that it was named as a symbol of Japanese female beauty. I hear that the height of the tree is not so large and the branches do not spread sideways, so it is useful as a symbol tree in a street tree with limited space or a small garden, and sometimes makes use of the small flowers to make bonsai. It is said that Okamezakura on Ajisai-dori St. started with 26 trees at first, but now it is lined with cherry blossom trees for about 700 meters to Nihonbashi Honmachi 4-chome in the ward border with Chiyoda-ku.
